Just trying to get a feel for what others are paying for auto insurance on their bimmers and what not. I got curious when I my girlfriend got a letter from her insurance comp saying her rates were going up 27.5% per month! She went in search of a new company and found that Erie was really affordable, if you could get in.
I'm currently with Progressive and have 5 vehicles under my two policies. The first policy the bike policy, which I will probably keep since Progressive is pretty good with that one. They are relatively cheap and cover aftermarket parts as well. I have piece of mind riding my R6 knowing its fully covered.
The second policy is the car/truck policy. This one covers my 97 & 95 Jeep Cherokees, along with the two 89 3ers. Here is my current policy with them:
- All vehicles have liability with the exception of my favored 89 325i, which has comprehensive ($500 comp/$500 collision).
- 20/40/15 across the board
- $2500 PIP
- Multi-car/Homeowner/Loyalty discounts applied
Total 6-month Progressive premium comes to $1382.00, so $2764/year.
I was curious and got a quote from Erie Insurance for the same exact insurance options, my yearly premium comes out to a nice $1670/year. That's over $1000 in savings. I'm thinking about switching over and bumping up the policies. I never really knew about the differences in coverages so I plan to adjust them a bit, and will still come out on top. Even adding comprehensive to all the cars came out cheaper.
I'd be curious to see what others select when it comes to the type of coverage (20/40/15, 50/100/50, 100/300/100, etc).
Now I will say this about Progressive. I do enjoy them as my insurance provider. Their rates are decent, but their online system is superb! It is really simple to make changes to your policy, and customer service is great from my experience. I have yet to have an accident with them so I don't have anything to say on how well they handle a claim, but I would expect excellent service. Their biggest selling point to me is their online system, and how well everything is organized. I will be keeping my bike there mainly because I don't think Erie offers bike insurance, but the cars will be leaving Progressive and moving on to Erie.
What about you guys?
Per JGood/thereisnoyun's requests, I present... some "STRUCTURE"!
JGood, forgive me, for I am not familiar with your "stacked" and "limited tort" references. That maybe unique to your state.
