    Charter Communications Invasion of Privacy?

Ok, i recently found out about vuze, a bit torrent program. You can download almost anything that is available for downloaded content. it is also user promoted, so anyone can put anything up for downloads.

I recently downloaded Role Models. no harm. nothing said it was illegal, no warning, nothing. I always thought you can download a video/movie and burn it for PRIVATE use. After all, when someone buys a movie, they are mostly paying for the technology to put it to a disk, iirc.

I got a flag on my email today from charter stating i am committing a copyright infringement by playing role models on my PC and xbox 360 (networked both together to watch movies on my tv).

Now i am not exactly worried about if its illegal or not, but my biggest worry is what else are they watching on my computer? If they can see when i downloaded, and how many times i played it to the exact hour and minute, what else are they capable of?

How can i avoid this in the future, and how might i bring this up to them? is this considered invasion of privacy? If you search up Charter Communications, you will see they have a history of screwing over its customers.

when you signed up for cable, you agreed not to do what you just did.

Charter doesn't "watch" you either. The MPAA will sit on torrent sites, log ips of people who download their shit, then go bitch to charter about it.

As far as privacy goes, I can do exactly what they did to you. With a bit of poking around I can see all the ip's for everyone connected to the same torrent as me. Its like you are sitting in times square then bitching about how people can see you jack off on the bench.

Also every ISP screws over their customers.

Don't download copyrighted shit. Especially from public trackers. Let me guess, Pirate Bay?

IIRC Verizon outright refused to release IP information to the likes of the MPAA and RIAA

get a firewall, that's it. We had time warned (aka charter) doing same thing. Some poeple double firewalled. I just run everything through a firewalled router and then have windows firewall.

OH, and I use common sense when downloading things from public torrent hosts, I don't.

Uh, one router should be plenty. Also, they can still get your ip address even if you're behind a router.

and that's why people run double firewall, I don't see what you're arguing here....

A router, which is also a firewall, should be plenty. You shouldn't need any additional firewalls. More often than not things will just conflict and you will have software and internet issues.

Maybe you dont know about a copyright... you cant copy it for your private profit. aka pirating. you CAN download copys of whatever for private use.

Also, not to insult your ignorance, but pirate bay is peer to peer. it is virtually untraceable from any agency.

nice try though, i give you a c for effort

I thought vuze itself was secure. i didnt know. simple as that. its more of a database than a P2P setup.

I found out what i did wrong, and how to prevent it next time.

Yes, a simple firewall WILL protect you, hints its job. jesus, LB, dont post unless you know wtf your talking about.
