It is however legal to make copies of media that you have already paid for. I think you are confusing two very different things.
And you are wrong about bit torrent being untraceable. Your ip address is still visible to the people you download from as well as the people you upload to. This is what the riaa does and then they subpoena your isp for your information and then bam you get sued.
Oh and firewalls protect from intrusion attempts. They don't hide your ip address so they are useless when it comes to protecting you from the mpaa and riaa.
