I almost puked. At the M3 I had to close the window.
Cash For Clunkers Trade-In Summary

Just like every other government program I'm sure there is something corrupt going on with this stuff.
The program stated that the cars had to be owned for a year and in driveable condition. But ultimately its the dealership that makes this call. So how hard would it be for a floor manager to buy a wrecked m3 at auction, part it out and turn it in as a clunker to make $4500 out of it plus the part out money? Not hard at all. Actually quite advantageous since he'd be the one doing the paperwork.
Some noteables from the list:
-1 1987 GNX
-1 1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante
-1 2000 Ford Lightning
-23 1994 and 1995 Ford Lightnings
-1 2008 Mustang (???)
-6 '80's Masteratis
-1 1992 Typhoon
-1 20th Anniversary Trans Am
-1 1997 Rolls Royce Continental R
-2 2006 Roush Stg. 3 F-150's
-1 1985 TVR 280i
-2 2008 Foose F-150's
-56 BMW E24 6-Series
Not to mention over 50 corvettes, 2 cadillac hearses, 600 Lexus SC300/400's, about 350 RX-7s, about 170 3000GTs (20 of themy spyders) and a 2006 350z roadster.
The list stinks of corruption.

I cried a bit. For a minute I thought oh shit that means there are like 15 S38s floating around at junkyards. Then The vividly horrifying image popped into my head of the sodium silicate being poured into the engine and some technician crying as he r3vved the engine to its painfully drawn out death. All while the shrill highs of O Fortuna play in the background.
Fuck you Warshington D.C.Comment

They're trying to get new cars sold, not supply more parts to keep other cars running ;)Comment

Except that they deliberately destroy the engine/power train in the cars before giving it to a wrecker which then only has 180 days to crush the car after salvaging whatever they can besides that. (ie interior, body panels etc.)
