all that shit is chinese junk but its mostly whats avail. i bought an engine hoist manufactured by mikek's ancestors and the top u channel that held the boom in place was only welded on 2 sides. someone actually forgot to put the 3rd weld on it. i did not notice until it folded up like jflip in the fetal position after a severe anal raping by myself. i dropped an s52 on the ground and nearly trashed the entire front end of my car and could have killed someone. they replaced it with a unit with all the welds in place and its worked fine sinceComment

My pops has one, and we had his 429 cobrajet on there fully assy'd for a few months. It bounced a little, but held up like a champ, as did the hoist.
HF tools are fine as long as they aren't your day to day use stuff, or something thats gonna be saving your life (jackstands, etc...)

I just don't but anything from there with a motor. Otherwise I've had no problems.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I don't really care where something is made as long as it is quality and provides good value. chinese make goods to various price points. the crap is dumped at places like HF and Walmart but you can buy the better quality products for a higher cost. there seems to be some reasonable quality stuff here: http://www.asedeals.com/engine_stands.html
anyone got any experience with any of those brands?Last edited by kishg; 10-12-2009, 05:00 PM.Comment

I have Harbor Freight engine hoist, engine stand, load leveler, lightweight 3 ton jack, and 4-1/2" electric grinder. All work flawlessly. I've used the hoist probably 100 times, had 4-5 engines on the stand for long periods of time, used the jack probably 1000 times or more. I just bought the grinder and it works great, it's hard to get it to bog down.
Certain things I won't buy there, but they have great deals on a lot of parts that work great. They offer a no-questions-asked warranty on a lot of items to. It's my personal policy to make sure the item breaks within that warranty period, if I think it will fail soon anyway :)Comment
