That video is sad, but if Buell had been making a better product all these years, his company wouldn't have gotten the ax.

maybe Harley will get a bailout like the majority of the us auto industry. if the past few years have show us anything, a lack of quality in product, inefficiency in the workplace, and a general misunderstanding of market conditions is a perfectly reasonable way to get a boatload of cash from the American people via the government. sounds a lot like Harley to me.

^ Meh, there's far greater demand for an American automobile than there is for a niche American motorcycle. HD's will always be looked at as a non-essential toy/luxury, but with some of the President's decisions, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they were given government aid (another conversation in itself.)

          Truly sad.

Buell gave a lot of small U.S. motorcycle companies hope that a small company could make it.

That's debatable when another company owns another company's motor. I too would like to see Buell's powered by something more innovative.

About the going rate really, but with Buell going away once again the Ninja 250 is going to be the only real "starter" bike on the market. I mean they already do, but it's nice to have options.

Not comparing the Blast to their real bikes though. Went with a friend who almost bought a XB9S the other day.

Something like this? This thing always perked my attention, though I'm partial to the design of the Lightning XB-9S/12S and the Firebolt. I've not spoke to anyone who owns the bike, but I am quite curious to hear how they like theirs.

I never liked Buell, I found the seating cramped and the power inadequate for the $$.

I went with a used ducati instead.

                  Buell

Actually Harley already had a bailout in the early 80s plus got Congress to slap a tariff on imported bikes. Anything over 700cc is considered a "heavy bike" and was taxed accordingly. Anybody remember the 700cc versions of formerly 750cc sportbikes and cruisers?

it's not that they weren't good it just that stuff made in America is so much more expensive because of labor costs and regulations to keep everyone safe and happy. These imported bikes are cheaper and people would rather get a good price over quality. look at the cash for clunkers people bought hondas and shit not american

I think my friend Ted summed it up best.

It's really no surprise that one of the world's finest and most under-appreciated motorcycle builders, Erik Buell, today announced that Harl...

Damn that is crazy, I have always wanted a Buell. I really liked the look of their bikes. This only makes me want one more. I wonder if the price for used ones is going to go up?
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

Sucks, and i have no idea whether im in the majority or minority here, but if i want a nice sport bike, im heading across the pond for a ducati or similar, and if i wanted (for some reason) a good american feeling bike, i would still pass Buell, and get something more traditionally american. Just my 2 cents
