Don't misunderstand me, I'm not talking about reality of the religions, I'm talking about the reporting of reality and exaggeration/generalization of it. Some pretty horrid shit has been done in the name of Christ, I don't think any religion can touch it. From my spotty knowledge of the religion, the old testament even said that it's ok to kill the non-believer, and through history, that rule was clearly taken liberties with.

When the media reports that a Catholic priest buttfucked some kids, or a Muslim blows up a school, or a black guy killed some people, or a white guy did the same, it's just telling us a fact (giving the benefit of the doubt for the sake of argument). The difference is how the facts are presented, received and used. When people say all Catholic priests are child rapists, or that all Pentecostals are all inbred simpleton retards, most people chuckle. But when you say that a Muslim is a terrorist, then you get hissed at. Sure, in your private circles, I can imagine that post-911, many share that sentiment, openly. All of the above is seriously ignorant shit to say, except somehow one is ok, and the other is not. And we come full circle to what I said from the beginning. This guy is an Islamic nutjob, but they barely mention it and try to imply that this immaterial - which, again, it very well could be but as a reporter of the facts, it's not their business to decide that. I didn't say that. My original point is that they are downplaying the fact that he is a religious extremist, for no other reason than that the religion in question is Islam. If he was a Christian nutjob, then this would have been mentioned on equal footing with all of the other facts. This is why I disagree with your post that this doesn't have anything to do with Islam vs Christianity - it most definitely does.

I'm not a Christian, I toe the line between atheism and agnosticism. That gives me the freedom from beliefs to be able to see the clear double standard.
