For those that don't want to drop money on a wheel, I'm very seriously considering picking up this controller.
As a wheel would then need a rig to set it up on, then setting it up, taking it down, somehwere to store it all.

i looked long and hard at that controller...the fact that its not wireless kills me..if you pick it up let me know how it is. till then ill still save up for my wheel

On cell, can't grab the friggin link to the gt5 review. They do a pretty thorough review of the game...they pretty much nailed every positive and negative.
The wheels are wired too.... so, that controller might be all right. How good are your thumbs? Mine wee better in college... or maybe its just the game is different...

^Yeah but have you ever tried to use a wheel? After playing car racing games since GT1 what 12 years ago? I have never been able to get the hang of driving with a wheel without the feel of the car.
I know it would get better if I tried them more, but I'm reluctant to drop that kind of cash on something.

GT4 was very much like that.
i can't really explain how, but somehow they have changed the force feedback to simulate the weight transfer... the wheel just tugs at your hands a little bit and after a while you get that "oh, that's what it's telling me".
loving my G25 + seat setup... in fact since finals ended i've put in so much time on it i've kinda burned myself out on racing for the moment.
You're used to it, though. I have a friend who can not get used to my wheel (G25) even with a good setup, for the exact reason Z31 is speaking of. No weight of the car, no real visual cue of weight transfer, and it's really hard to sense when to turn in during a slide. Plus, the wheel just doesn't turn fast enough, you have to force it instead of letting it turn like a real car.
I have 0 issues driving with a wheel, but he has tons.
I wouldn't play the game without a wheel, you can feel the weight of that car, the tires locking up when you drive without ABS. Driving in snow is awesome, you can really feel the different conditions.
Also how do you feel mech. damage with out a wheel, when online? I love hitting a wall and having to do a lap with an offset wheel and huge wheel shimmy.:)
I just finished 4 laps of the nurburgring in my stock '07 M3(except for coilovers, wheels and race tires) and i have to say that speed isn't everything. A car with 400hp on a challenging track can be more fun than a supped up lambo that you can barely control.
The car handles amazingly and at one point I caught up with a Lexus IS250(newer body style) and we went back and forth taking the lead from each other, then it got dark(time/weather change) and we were still about 200 yards from each other the whole track.
On the last lap a tuned 350Z joined us and then it got really interesting!
Safe to say, most fun I've had night driving in the ring in a stock BMW.
