Netbooks best for school/megasquirt?

hey,

the GF decided to get me a netbook for xmas this year and put me on a search to find one. looking mainly under 250$ craigslist is my main market. and It iwll be used pretty much for school, megasquirt and maybe other little things.

Mostly looking for acer aspires 10.1 or EEE pc 10.1s 1005HA

anyone have any experience with netbooks at all? recommendations etc?

My main question is that Im wondering If I should pick one up now on craigslist, or wait till after christmas, (if there is a a sort of black friday sort of thing again.) Which seems better, used craigslist for 225$ or wait till after christmas and take a chance?

The Acer's have a tendency to have problems with their batteries. I had to have 3 batteries swapped out within 6 months. I switched to a Toshiba netbook and have been fine since. Don't get the Dell, it's a pos. The HP is also another good choice. I would just wait till it's closer to christmas, if you're looking to spend 250, plenty of places, especially Costco and Sams will have them for dirt cheap, probably even right now. Plus you'll have a warranty to back it up just in case. I like the Toshiba I got at Costco, haven't had any issues and runs better than my MacBook pro (which I want to throw out the window right now). I would advise to get either the Toshiba or the HP.

I wanna say my toshiba was $300 brand new from tiger direct. Upgraded the ram for $30, and have no complaints. It's not noticeable in my backpack, and is an easy carry to and from school. The only thing that pisses me off about it is that sometimes I'll run a program that has a large image size and I can't see the whole thing, I use desktop dyno a lot and can't access some of the buttons on the lower part of the screen.

Have the Asus one that was mentioned in the last netbook/megasquirt thread, love it. The 8+ hours of battery life is a biggie for getting the first tune done, no fucking power cords to deal with as you set up the car from scratch.

I agree that battery life is more important than you might think. My HP is horrible, my Samsung is really good.
