            Most bank tellers are better trained then regular cashiers or waiters. They know what to look for. Like how the ink looks, the color of the paper, the threads put into the paper, the texture, etc. Most banks also have black light set ups that can tell them if they are real as well.

            For a restaurant, they are just playing it safe. If there is now way for them to know if it is legal tender, they don't have to take it.
