    checkstop mania

    Southern California.
Driving down Hawthorne Blvd. North(four lanes, both directions) one in the afternoon on last Tuesday.
When I got to Inglewood, there was a huge traffic jam. Thought about leaving for side streets, assuming an accident had occurred.
The Inglewood Police had set up a roadblock, next to their station.
They were checking every car , asking for a valid drivers license.
This was a roadblock , the only intention, obviously, was to catch illegals , sans license, driving through town.
I, being a legal white boy , with license and insurance, smiled.
The older officer said, "your O. K.", I replied in kind, thinking to myself, cool , lets get these illegal , non insured/licensed Latinos off the road.
Two blocks on down the road, I am fumed, mostly at myself, for being a prejudice fuck, then I realized I had just passed a Gestapo style roadblock.
I have seen, been through many stops before; their pretense being to catch drunk drivers.
They were always at night and had been foretold in the newspapers.
This was so completely different, there was actually an ominous feel about it, which I believe brought about my bigotry.
Call it crowd mentality or whatever, I swear, this instance and the people perpetuating it, brought this crap out of me somehow.
Civil liberties have to be for all peoples.
The closest thing , in my immediate past that I can relate this to is as follows.
I own property at Eldorado Ranch, by San Felipe, Mexico.
There is only one road down there,no crossroads, for a few hours, along the Sea of Cortez.
Half way down, there is a checkstop.
A gang of 16 to 24 year olds, a couple in uniforms, most in disarray.ALL are holding full on banana clipped, loaded, cocked, AK47'S.
My God, You just know a firefight will break out at any second.
Things have gone way too far in this Country, at least for sure in Inglewood, CA.
What is next, waterboard the poor fucks without a license?
I know this has turned into a rant about me feeling ashamed, but , shame on others too. Knock it off Inglewood. Americans should stand for more than what we have lately, that's really my point.

nothing to be ashamed of IMHO
getting illegals off the road and out of the country is not wrong

Is it a civil liberty to drive without a license? On public roads? Which you don't pay taxes to help maintain?

I'm all for inalienable rights, but driving without a license/insurance/whatever is plain ol' illegal. Take the bus.

maybe throw them in jail? Also, you turned this into a nice racism topic, when in fact, contrary to what you think, white people often drive without licenses too. Crazy thought

Obviously its an issue there, hence the checkpoint. People are too PC nowadays. Spin it anyway you want, but the shit is illegal and they are trying to protect the general public.

Be careful about willingly giving up liberties.

You're mixing the issue of being unlicensed and race. It so happens that in your area illegals are driving without licenses. If they caught some white 15 year old without a license it would be the same as pinching the illegal. Mexican or white rich kid, if you drive without a license you're a dumbshit and should rightfully be thrown in jail.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.
