Even more so on the containment of communism.

Maybe you should get your dates and background info right before saying that the Soviets weren't a threat. Everybody knows that the Soviets were considered a post war threat even before the war was over.

He stated that the Soviets didn't drop the first bomb until 1949. Obviously WWII was over by that time.

Hiroshima bomb (dropped by Americans) - 1945

    Truman Doctrine - 1947

    Soviet's first atomic bomb - 1949

Is that clear enough for you?

oh it just sounds funny, Soviets were considered a POST WAR thread BEFORE the war was over. Can I at this time consider say North Korea as a Post war-on-terror threat?

well, it can actually make sense i guess...

Your usage of "post" and "before" in the same sentence was very unbecoming of someone who is supposedly so logical.

this is going to hurt, but in a small aspect tom is right. we always saw russia as a threat, more as a threat in the way of communism and Stalin, not so much russia itself.

germany was ther larger threat and we needed them to help tie up germany on 2 fronts to defeat them. we also need them to help tie up japan, the second larger threat, by way of china. we were allies by necesstiy, not really choice.
it was decided to defeat germany first, than japan and THEN deal with what might happen with russia after the war. we knew it would not be good though.

dropping the a bomb had little to do with the threat to russia. besides shouldn't you be rooting for communism tom?
are you butt hurt it failed in russia?

do a little reading, the invasion of japan was estimated to cost some possable 1.5-2 million mre american/allied lives and drag things on 1 or more years.

if you want to crap on truman, attact some of his later dealings, not his decision to drop the bomb.

    seems fairly coherent to me.

do I need to break down engish for you????? I leave out some things because we are talking about an A bomb attack/threat so I kinda assume you can connect the fucking dots.
