Who else is using it? I've been looking for a web service like this for a while. Think of if like your personal thumb drive on the web. But rather than just a file storage area, it makes it a no-brainer to sync up versions of a file (that's what I'm using it for - so I don't end up with endless revisions on different PC's.).

You can also host photos. It all just show up on your desktop as a normal folder. Awesome...You get 2 gigs for free.

Yup I used it for collaborative projects at my university. Worked out great, we could all submit the changes to our shared dropbox folder and boom everyone had the newest versions of stuff.

I've been using it for about a year now. It's fucking awesome!

After feelin it out for a while I jumped in with both feet, totally replaced the "my docs" folder with the dropbox folder. Pretty much everything except the gigs of music/movies/porn. Now if I need to look up the bills spreadsheet or a password, megalogview, whatever.. it's accessible even from a random friend's computer.

With the laptop I can record a log then load it on the desktop to look at without lifting a finger, it autosyncs as soon as it connects to the wifi.

And most impotrantly the app is very lightweight and nag-free!

what makes it better than my own ftp server?

- PC, mac, android, and iphone (blackberry I think too).
- Automatically syncs all your computers together.
- Background transfers, so it won't hog your bandwidth.
- It's appears as a folder on your desk top, so it works with the OS better. You don't have to wait for the FTP to connect. The files are already there.
- Internet goes down, and you still have your files.
- Will automatically resume a upload or download.

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch.
