Thats how Taiwan's healthcare is built. They just analyzed all the best HC systems, hybridized them, and put them into effect. Now they have one of the best HCs in the world and found out that the USs is one of the worst. I went into a Taiwan hospital (w/out Med Ins of course) was seen for a fever, taken care and out of there with the meds I needed in less than 40 mins. Very happy with their system. But I live here wihout a pub option :(

i hope you are joking. i work in the healthcare industry and have spent some time in taiwan analyzing and working in their hc system. i also have family that work in the system and its complete crap. it is just as inefficient as the us and the level of care is completely horrible. the list for surgical candidates is 2 months long for a simple cholecystectomy. the standard of care is subpar compared to the us.
i was back there this summer with family and had a family member that got a sinus infection. the doc gave her so much medication that would cause liver inflammation. i mean she got heavy duty stuff that are reserved for hosiptal patients. her liver enzymes were still elevated 3 months after we got back from our vacation.
there is no regulation of how much meds can be given. the quality of service was subpar at best. i don't see how it is as you say. yes it is true the ER was not crowded but taiwanese people used the ER as an ER not a pcp. just because the ER was less packed doesn't mean the system is better.
for the people who argue for this reform. you have no idea how crappy of the care that is coming. o yeh here is the question that isn't ever answered...how are you all of a sudden going to have docs that are going to provided hc for the 40 million some that are going to be insured all of a sudden. its not like docs are gonna just pop up all of a sudden (it takes a minimum of 7 years of training). there are already shortages of docs in the primary care fields now you overload them with 40 million more patients. docs now are going to just cherry pick the easy patients which are going to leave people that are insured WITHOUT a doc. whats the good of having insurance without a doctor to see? and its not illegal or unethical to not take a patient under care. it is at the physician's discretion if he/she thinks they are able to provide sufficient care.
