GM's Quick Disconnect Coolant Fittings

Are the worst in the industry.
We as BMW owners are lucky to rarely have to deal with such shoddy engineering such as these abortions of automobile design.
While probably a good idea at first, when they reach 100k miles, they tend to shatter in your hands, causing you to break out the screw extractor, tap, and occasionally a heli-coil kit. If BMW came up with a design such as this, they wouldnt spec steel as the component.

e46s have such plastic quick disconnects. They work okay.

I have never had a problem with the e46 hoses. Everything works as planned. You don't find yourself habitually taking a tap and heli-coil kit out of your toolbox if you work on BMW's, but it is apparent that these tools are a necessity in the American world.
As you read more and more about american cars, its amazing how shitty they are.
I remember having to drain a transmission on a late 90's grand am. I was looking all over for the drain plug, when I realized there wasnt one. You are supposed to pull all the bolts out, and let the fluid drop all over the place.

It's known, but not being rectified. You get to purchase the extractor that is usually sitting right beside the coolant adapter at the auto parts store.

Do you know BMW uses GM auto transmissions? And mine has lasted so far 221,000 miles. And it has a drain plug.

Yes, I am aware. I also remember replacing 6 automatic GM transmissions in 5 years, while replacing zero ZF/Getrag transmissions in the same time span.

I dont know dude. Honestly after working ona shitload of Honda, Toyotas, and BMWs, BMWs falls on the bottom for quality.

i thought this was about GM, not honda and toyota. either way, im curious. can you list some examples of the bottom quality?

They may lose in quality, but win in easy of working on. Even on newer bmw's you don't have to remove every freaking thing to change a spark plug.
