I'm looking to pick up some new tower speakers for my HT. I recently heard a pair of Definitive that I liked quite a bit. Anyone recommend another brand? POLK, B+W???

B&W or Klipsch . I would prefer Klipsch if I was buying again. I am running a old school Infinity SM152's
Dont buy from a big box store go to a real H.T. store and see what they recommend for your set up and what you will be doing whit them. check out axiom audio, http://www.axiomaudio.com/, they are fantastic speakers and priced about the same as Klipsch and B&W. I highly recommend them, I'm getting a pair of their m22 bookshelf speakers for my room, I love them!Comment

Having previous experience working for a home theater install shop, I have to agree with this gentleman. And don't be scared that you're going to end up spending $5k PER speaker. Tell the guys in the shop what you're looking for, what your budget is, what you're hoping to get out of them (KNOW THESE THINGS BEFORE YOU GO IN), and you will get what you need.
Also, go to a few shops. Chances are, half of the ones you do go into are going to be populated by elitist audiophile assholes who are going to try to convince you that you need 00 gauge speaker wire and $150 audio-grade wall outlets. This is crap. Ask around, make a day of it, and find a shop that can get you what you need.Comment

Back when I was a young salesman at a fairly good sized chain company (Pacific Stereo) a customer walked in and said in his best snotty voice "I want speakers that can play from 20Hz to 20Khz, what do you have"...I showed him some headphones...Comment

Oh, I could tell you stories about some of the self-proclaimed "audiophiles" that we used to do installations for when I was at Premiere. You get these dipshits that read a few blogs and buy all of the magazines in the stereo section at B&N, and they think they know everything and you know shit.Comment

I recently picked up a pair of Polk LSi25's with a CS20 center channel. Reused my existing rear satellites.
Been nothing short of tremendously happy with the upgrade. Even the wife was blown away by the sound, and she couldn't give a damn less about speakers.

Retail is ~$3k for everything, or thereabouts, ended up paying about $750 shipped all said and done. Picked it all up second hand in great shape.Comment

This is good advice, its how I have picked up my mono amps and a few other things, that are just a few years old have no run time on them for less that 1/3 the cost of 1 new one.

I got my M&K subwoofer in trade for running new RG6 runs in one of our product rep's houses while I was at Premiere. This sub is worth about $1k, and I got it for what would have amounted to about $200 in labor. I'm telling you, once the new stuff comes out, these guy's can't wait to get rid of their old shit.

For Home cinema I recommend to get descent used speakers and a great sub woofer. The sub will make a whole difference in your experience. Buying used will allow you to double or triple the quality for the same price.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.
