    1997 Saab 900 *opinions*

Ran across a cheap, ($400) '97 Saab 900s automatic with 130k. Good body and interior and has recently had the HG replaced. It is know to have vaccum leaks and currently does not run (vaccum leaks), it was running two months ago.

Anyone have experience with Saab esp. 900s? Things to watch out for? I have posted on Saab forums, but they are pretty slow to respond.

Here is a factory pic for reference, I know its god ugly! Thanks in advance.

NO....it's a GM variant w/ cheap-shit plasticky Opel interior components. Seen too many come and go in the shop I worked in. Your 25yr old E30 WILL have fewer issues, as well as them being less expensive. If you're using it as a rallycross car or enduro car or something, then it's worth it.

The older ones look nicer IMHO. The Saab 900 SPG was the e30m3 version of it's 900 series. But I don't think it was really that fast or handled that well.

SPG red tops were quick but not as fast as 9000 SPG red tops. Honestly for 400 you could use it as a winter bomber if you feel like dealing with the issues and part it come spring.

Would I? Not likely as i would rather have a domestic bomber for winter or a BMW.

my father is a actually a Saab specialist and according to him a vacuum leak isn't too big of an issue?. If your looking for more then a daily beater i say look away.

              You lost me at automatic.

A friend of mine picked up an old beater 900 (older gen, manual) for $500. Got him through 2 years of driving without needing anything.

I was just going to pick it up and get it running well and flip it. I'm going to look at it tomorrow so we will see. In good running condition I think i could get 2kish for it.

What model is that? There is one exactly like that by my house and it actually looks pretty cool.

It's a 9-3 Viggen. Basically the M3 of Saab. The bookeeper at the videostore I used to work at had one.

This brings back memories. My first car was an 82 900s. White with shit brown velor interior. Electrical gremlins galore, shitty idle problems, blew heater cores like a whore on dollar day, but was faster than my buddies new eclipse back in 96. I hated that car so much, I loved it.

The 9-3 Viggen is a pretty quick car. Needs a limited slip as they supposedly torque steer like crazy under full throttle.

OP, Buy it and flip it... or just run it into the ground!

Saab? Stab yourself in the head with a screwdriver, it will hurt less.

Maybe it's just a common rumor, but i always thought that any Saab part is more expensive than the mythical OEM e30 hardtop roof rack?
