Another tri k is that you can use any old RCA cables for compenent video. The video plus audio ones are perfect for this.

You're going to notice a huge fucking difference in quality for the Xbox. Notably, in the menu system for the Xbox. Same with the Directv.
And nrubenstein is correct, but the HDMI still looks better at times. Switching the RCA's around to use them as component cables works, but you wont get anything over 720 at any point. For 1080, you have to have HDMI.

And then when you get all switched over to hdmi, save your component cables for your car stereo!

^ignore this. It's wrong. They are the wrong impedance. Componet video needs 75 Ohm.

You can use them in a pinch, but no self respecting audio/videophile would ever be caught with this.

Not sure if this was mentioned but just check for a spec 1.3 cable. Even the shitty once should be certified, just want to make sure that some douche isnt selling you some 8 year old communist crap. Once it certifies at that spec any more money you spend will bring little to no advantage.

Composite/Component (cant remember, with the 3 primary colors and separate audio) is also good but HDMI is better for most because:

                    a. one cable.
                    b. HCPD compliant so any of that protected content will play. Its more of an issue using a computer or XBOX/PS3, where you could be playing a video downloaded containing copy protection.
                    Im now E30less.

Thanks for the input guys, I ordered 2 15' cables, hopefully they'll work. If not, or I want shorter, I can order the amazon ones and have the 15' ones for spares or whatever.

Hold up! Are you connecting your xbox 360 to it or a regular xbox? I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to home electronics.

I do not believe the 360 has an hdmi output on the back. You have to use the cables made by microsoft or madcatz. Also for anything electronic use www.newegg.com . They have EXCELLENT CS. Extremely cheap prices. And quality stuff. Newegg is the best hands down. I own a custom built PC and have used nobody else but newegg since back in 2003.

I said twice I ordered the cables already. The 360 I have is somewhat new and indeed has an HDMI port, And newegg is just as pricey or more expensive for the cables. I did build my pc from newegg a while back and use them a lot.
