    Warning/reminder to CA smokers

So I was getting off work in Mill Valley a couple nights ago and was enjoying a smoke when I saw some blues and reds in my mirror. Immediatly pulled over and put my cut out in my ashtray, killed the ignition, keys and both hands on my dash, all the things cops love. He came up to my window and proceded to tell me i had been pulled over for ashing onto the ground. Apparently in can its illegal to ash anywhere but an ashtray; Public OR PRIVATE areas (including your house). Gave me a ticket, and I just got the fine - $476.

Also, I never gave the cop attitude or talked back, always said sir, it was raining, and it was just ash, not the butt which went in my ashtray. So be careful out there, I could have bought a 1978 911sc shell for that money.

wait, you were pulled over and cited for ashing on the ground AND paid the citation??? That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. I would most definitely have set it for court.

Out here ashing on the ground is a major no-no. Makes sense when you see how many devastating bushfires happen because of people A) ashing on the ground and B) flicking butts out the window.

A good side effect of not dying in a raging inferno is also that our bush, roads, beaches and cities are cleaner thanks to people not being fucking untidy waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless and actually using the goddamn ashtray the car makers put in the car in the first place.

I haven't paid it, just got the info in the mail. I'm unsure if I want to fight it or not. I've been told when you fight things and lose the fee can increase. Between this and a 450 carpool violation I can't risk an increase. It sucks that non dangerous violations cost more than running a red light. Great way to keep us safe.

Long time ago, they pulled over a woman for taking the pickle out of her burger from McDonalds and throwing out the window. Not those Dill pickles, I'm talking about those little round mini ones. It was on the news and everything. Years ago though. I was a young lad and my mother had to explain it to me because even I at that age thought it was stupid.
              But hey, it's California. D:

ah, so it's a fire hazard deal, not a pollution deal. That I guess I can understand. I've never heard of that shit though.

In reply to iain, I would LOVE to see the chances of ash igniting wet asphault. Also, ash doesn't really pollute or dirty anything, its a natural substance that will be erased with the first breeze or drizzle, in amounts that small

Ash from tobacco products is just that ash, there is no Hots in it. Now a But I could see fire danger but not ash. Ash by definition has no fire, its whats left after all the fuel is consumed by the fire.

^This. Just another "revenue generator" to help pay for your illegals' health and associated civic costs (prison upkeep, welfare, etc). MA is no better, believe me.

true but you could flick some of the lit cherry or all of the cherry or lose the whole cigarette. it's such bullshit though. Nothing like that here in Texas.

A friend of mine got pulled over in Mill Valley for spitting sunflower seeds out of his car window but didn't get ticketed.

I used to live there for about 5 years and was never pulled over because I know how tight ass they are and I always drove 25 MPH down E. Blithedale or Miller Ave. when leaving town and always followed every traffic law to the letter, and this is when I drove a Red Corvette Convertible.

Wish I could still afford to live there.

Close to SF and lots of nice looking women and MILF's.

That's what I don't get. Maybe the cop thought you flicked the butt from your cigarette. I find it a little hard to believe that you got a ticket for ashing your cig, and if you really did, fight the hell out of that.

Dude probably had to meet his quota. A few months ago I was in a car with my friend and for some reason he doesn't use his ash tray for cigarettes, so he has an empty Coke can that he cut the top out of and just uses that as an ash tray. We passed a cop parked in a parking lot and my friend had his cigarette out the window. He put it out in his can (he pours a little bit of soda in it so the cigs go out when they're dropped in) and almost immediately the cop turned his lights on and pulled us over. Dude tried to say that my friend flicked his cigarette out the window and when my friend tried to show him the can he was like "don't lie to me, I know what I saw."

                              Fucking cops. :hitler:
