windows 7 is really great. you can get a mac and still get win7. I have a mac mini and run win7 100% of the time. for laptops though, i think the apple OS is the way to go since it supports multitouch on the trackpad.

7 is worth the upgrade, for sure. and if you have a .edu email account its only 30 bucks.

and btw, not upgrading because your 2001 soundcard isn't working is retarded.... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sound+blaster+5.1+windows+7+driver

and thats probably a 64bit issue, not a windows 7 issue

running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Not one driver problem. Any USB device I plug in works almost instantly.

I run 32bit 7 on my lap top and love it. laptop shipped from factory with 64bit Vista. which sucked. 7 is way faster, and so far no problems, it is worth it to upgrade. but in my case I just torrented it so it was free.

I'm running 7 on my netbook now, faster than XP was by quite a bit.

Well that wasn't the answer at all. You need to turn off the signed drivers through boot menu. I've been building and tweaking my pc's for almost 10 years. Thanks. OH and I know what google is and how to use it.

Please list some benefits from moving to 7 from xp. I'd love to hear your list. Besides the extremely large amount of ram 7 uses compared to xp..

Im not sure I agree with anything you've said in here and I'm an MCSA.

Worth the upgrade. All of it.
XP is solid NOW. But I prefer with Windows 7 now and I've become quite fond of how it makes me use the OS as opposed to XP. Its a lot faster. I find myself using the mouse less, which is nice as a tech. I've now commented in all 10 Windows 7 threads.

I still don't see any benefits when xp is a monster of an os still. It's got a slick UI thats about all I can see. I just guess I don't like having my hand held through everything while working on my PC. It reminds way to much of OSX.

I do admit that after using it now for about a week or two, it seems a bit faster in such things as browsing the web. Or doing small tasks.

You're name is Harry Potter. I can't trust you.

And I like 7...definately a noticable difference over Vista.

Maybe my real name just happens to be harry potter. :(

it should just run as a 32bit process.

as for a reason to upgrade, the security differences between xp and windows 7 are significant. i like xp as much as the next guy.... on my old ass pc's. but if my hardware is good enough to run 7, i will. And if you are going to run xp, you might as well just run ubuntu, just as fast (faster actually) and more feature rich.

A little late to the party, but I just installed 7 last night, did a full reformat and a clean install of 32bit Professional. Fast as shit, boots fast, runs fast, and with 4GB of ram, it's screaming fast. Love it so far.

Don't switch to Mac. More expensive, and takes a while to learn if you're used to PC.

Not really, they're pretty intuitive. You just have to learn the little differences. Things are organized differently, and most things are just backwards from PC. When I was working in tech support for them in AppleCare, we had 4 weeks of training on them before we hit the calling floor, and it didn't take long for most people to get the hang of them.
