quake in haiti..

man this shit is insane... so many people trapped and dead... they estimate 100,000 dead! wow is all i can say, i hope they can save a lot.. haiti is such a poor country i can imagine how they are going to recover from this disaster. so much disease will spread from this...
i live in the dominican republic, i just got home from work when i felt the quake.. the house was shifting back and forth.. it was pretty intense.! i live about 150 miles away from haiti.

thats good there sending help, they still say a 7.0.. shitty thing is everything built there is just sinder blocks stacked on top of each other... no rebar reinforcement or concert fill in the middle.. this is why every thing collapsed and people are trapped... imagine being in a 3 or 4 story apartment building built like that? its pretty intense over here right now.

I can not believe what I am seeing on the news about it. Looks like total devastation and chaos. I feel awful about it and know that many people's lives will be lost or changed by this quake. I was actually in the DR a few weeks ago too. How did the DR hold up in the quake? I imagine that it is in bad shape as well right now?

The US is sending a shitload of help. Coast Guard ship, Aircraft carrier, over 2000 marines, 15 disaster relief coordinators, 75 urban search and rescue experts, 2 C-130's running assessments right now. And so on and So fourth. And the European union is sending its fair share.

mike, not really, i haven't heard anything about the DR, but yeah theyre still saying 7.0, and Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, i really feel bad about it over there.

I hope they are able to get it all sorted out.

well where i am, which is almost 150 miles away... we defiantly felt it... my house was swaying back and forth about 2 inchs id say.. water was sloshing out the pool... i mean .. where i am, its nothing like what happened in haiti.. the DR is doing good.. but i mean a 7.0 epicentre slammed port prince. so you can imagine it is bad!

a couple of kids from my school are down there right now on a mission trip, and they somehow called a friend of mine earlier today to say they were safe, huge relief. i feel so bad for those people though, i cant imagine what it would be like to see my town in ruins.

I recall a few 6.0-7.5 quakes in my youth in a fully constructed building. I could not begin to imagine that while in a shanty.
