    DLP TVs

I'm in the midst of building my HT and came across this TV.

I usually buy LCD TVs but I came across a insane deal on this.

How is the picture on DLP TV?

This is okay, but it's going to be fairly deep. It's projection style tv so if that doesn't bother you go for it. Old technology \

do LCD's burn out? how do you fix that?

buying a bulb for a DLP seems easier/cheaper than dealing with LCD/Plasma. I also heard that DLP's produce deeper/better colors. Or they used to...

I have a 50" Samsung DLP, and I LOVE it. I think the colors are much warmer than on an LCD/plasma, but they aren't quite as vibrant. I think the colors on most LCD/plasmas are too bright tho, kind of bugs me. My black levels are really good, the overall picture looks great, it's all in the calibration. My TV also has the matte screen, which I like A LOT more than the glossy. And with DLP's, the only thing you really have to worry about is the color wheel going out, and the bulb. The bulbs are kinda spendy, but easy to replace.

i have a mitsu 65" DLP and the picture is fantastic, crystal clear, great blacks which a lot of LCD's have trouble with, and a bigger screen than a LCD
best bang for the buck for the size by a wide margin

actually DLP technology is a lot newer than LCD LOL

I'm glad other people like the new DLP. I never had a plasma or LCD, so I worried long and hard about what to get, and ended up with a Samsung DLP. I have been super happy with it, but I am really happy to find out that it is 3D CAPABLE!

So thats the deal. Supposedly only DLP from the last 2 or 3 years can be 3D capable.

                Did Samsung quit making DLPs?

I have a 50" 1080p Samsung I bought just over 3 years ago, love it. And their newer ones were LED, so no more worry about changing bulbs.

Samsung quit making them. Mitsubishi still does but I don't like them as much as the LED powered Samsungs. We got the last new 67 inch Samsung from Frys last year, love it.

Another advantage to DLP's is they are LIGHT. Josh's TV weighs like 100lbs. An LCD in the same size would weigh 4-5 times that.

                        Less than that even.

                        My Samsung is around 60-65lbs.

Not to mention, I hate when I see people bought a Plasma/LCD "because it's thin" then they have it on top of entertainment center that takes up the same floor space. Seems so stupid to me.

yea my DLP is probably 55 pounds or so, but I had to help my friend mount his flat panel and it took three of us. That sucked, I didn't want to drop the damn thing but I didn't want my head smashed in either.

I don't think my DLP even weighs 50 lbs. That thing is light as shit, I can lift the ends of it up without even trying when I dust under it.

And yes, wall-mounting flat-panels sucks ass. When I was doing home theater, we had to wall-mount a 65" Fujitsu plasma that retailed for $25k. Fucking thing weighed like 200 lbs. You want to talk about not wanting to drop it? :D
