The problem with Jeff's is he claims he's a Mormon, just not a member of LDS. Hell my best friend is gay and calls himself a mormon goes to LDS church but LDS bans gays. See how everything gets misconstrued.

I think the issue here is that you have immigrants that refuse to make any attempt to conform to local custom or culture. They disregard it and try to supplant their own culture. It doesn't really matter if it is religious based or not. They will transform what they can because that is what they are used to.
It's a losing battle too. Their kids will adapt and blend in more than the parents, and their kids will be indistinguishable from the native population in culture and custom for the most part.
There are cases where sub-cultures break out and those are often the result of a perceived (or actual) ostrasizing by society or because a particularly strong set of cultural ties that allow it to live longer than it normally would. That happens when you get a large group of immigrants in one area, like the Hasidic Jews that Lee talks about. Eventually, they will be overcome though. Their kids will rebel and want to conform and fit in with their peers AS LONG as the government does not kowtow to these minority groups and allow them to supplant the local culture.
There is always something left of their original culture. I personally think that is a very good thing. It gives spice and personality to different regions even within a single country. But a little is enough.
But it does really piss me off when somebody from outside the culture tries to dictate what is acceptable based off of their culture they brought with them. They moved HERE, not the other way around. If you had moved there, you can be damned sure they would expect you to conform to their culture, not the other way around.
France has a huge problem with muslims taking over large areas of Paris and other cities. The mulsims refuse to conform to local culture. They even refuse to abide by the law. They use their own Imams for dispensing justice and they force the locals away in droves. That's not good. France has to do something to crack down on this. No government can allow another law to exist within its borders but that is exactly what France, and also England, have allowed to happen. They have to stop it. I just hope it hasn't gone too far already. That's a partial reason for this face covering law.1987 E30 325is

This is true, I work at best buy and we get a lot of arab/muslim guys coming in buying a lot of stuff. I live in Roch MN so a lot of them are pretty wealthy and here for Mayo. The parents you can tell are very traditional looking in the fact that they wear their native clothing, obviously can tell english for the most part isn't their first language (or even that they speak it 100% fluently), etc. However, their children are generally speaking very americanized. You can see them come in as a family, and mom and dad are in their musilm looking clothes, billy and bobby or whatever are decked out in the newest AE & A&F rocking the latest and greatest everything, totally american looking & acting.
We have a prince of some sort that comes in from time to time and drops a TON, like 10's of thousands of dollars at a time, he is very americanized. Always comes in with an entourage of guys, wearing american designer clothes, pretty out spoken dude and a nice guy. Not as quiet and held back as most of the "traditional" arab/muslims seem to be.
I hope this makes sense, I'm pretty blasted right now.
