Given the size of this thing, it would make a great on-the-go media device. 64 gigs is simply not enough. Shit, HD movies are about 7 gigs a pop.

Basically, this thing will fail. It may appeal to a small market but I can't see this having mainstream appeal until they make some changes.

Yes, but these are a fashion/social statement about how cool/hip you are.

An Asus laptop doesn't buy you that kind of street cred with the middle class yuppies.

I didn't get to see the complete spec's but is the 64gb solid state? If so it will be lightning quick. Hd is not 7gb for this size, handbrake it an it's likely a little less than 1gb.

I'm pretty pumped about it. It'll blow the Kindle out of the water. Amazon never had a chance against Apple.

Imagine having all of your textbooks, notes, homework assignments, instruction manuals, morning newspapers, magazines, etc... you name it, it has the potential.

            Exciting!

If the rumors are true, it's going to cost at least a grand. Also, I think this will appeal to a different demographic than e-readers.

It'll appeal mostly to students, teenagers and young adults, much like the iPod and everything else Apple. Whether or not they can afford it is the question. Most can afford Macbooks and iPhones, so I can't see this as being unrealistic.

It's base 500 for 16gb. Just a big glorified iPod. I want one though, and I don't know why.

I would be interested if I was still in school. Seems like a neat and easy way to keep notes and stay organized. Plus it has your media available for those times between classes. (I was a commuter so I used to have a few hours between some classes)

Well, for starters one thing they get a hard on for is media, right?

How the fuck am I supposed to load my pictures on it? No card reader, no USB. The only options are take both this thing and my camera to a real computer or buy one of those eyefi cards (which suck at everything else).

This is nothing more than a niche device. An ItouchXL. It wont kill netbooks, e-readers (which get a shit-ton better battery life) or hurt tablet computing.
                      Im now E30less.

at first i thought this was going to be a failure, because it's simply a big iPhone, but now i'm sure it's going to do well. look at how much of a suprise hit the netbooks were last year, and they were simple devices.

the iPad is going catered toward the casual internet/multimedia user. think surfing the internet while sitting on the couch. you don't need a full blown laptop to do that. and the tablet form factor is perfect. it seems overpriced for what it is, but when compared to the price of some laptops, it makes sense in the apple universe (right between the ipod touch and macbook).

                        price is 499, 599, 699 for 16 / 32 64 GB. additional $130 for 3G model.
monthly plan is 15 for 250MB / month and 30 for unlimited.
                        contract free / carrier unlocked.

memory is not an ssd (impossible at that price), instead it's flash based like the iPhone, but given the simplicity of the OS and the 1GHz proc, it should be pretty fast. if apple was any other normal company, they would've added a sd card slot for memory expansion, but unfortunately that's apple for you.

I can't believe they called it the iPad. iSlate would have been so much better. iPad sounds like an overpriced feminine hygiene product that will check your email.

I don't get what the need for a usb would be, get a proper network.

                              I'll take mine in white.
