You know those sci-fi future worlds where everything you see is from "MegaCorp" ? Fast forward 20 years, that's Google.

Yup, I don't believe that EVERYTHING will go onto their cloud though. It's just not feasible for serious users. (Gamers, video/media editing, graphics, etc...)

On the other hand, having all of my papers and little stuff on a cloud would be a little convenient, no more flash drives just as an example.

between google docs, my various gmail accounts and photobucket accounts, I've never even thought about purchasing a flash drive.

Reminds me, the other day I was in lab and some guy was typing up his resume. He called over one of the faculty members and I overheard them talking a flash/usb drive and him not having one and possibly going to buy one in the bookstore and I just spent an hour on this etc... After swallowing how clueless these two were and wishing I didn't have to experience that, I told him, just email it to yourself dumbass! (dumbass part was silent)

Well, he was thrilled and amazed and extended many thanks while the faculty member walked away with this, how stupid can I be look.

 YEah, emailing to yourself is really convenient. Sometimes I like having a flash drive for quick transfers or bringing presentations to class (where I'm not sure about checking my email).

I agree though, if the cloud becomes more like a file storage system that can be accessed w/o an online application (docs, gmail, etc) that would be awesome.

                      "one gigabit per second service"

I'm in. I currently have a measly 8 megabit per second service. 125x faster would be nice.

If I'm lucky, this'll turn out well, and scare some more bandwidth out of the ISPs. I currently pay $280/mo for 1.544Mbit service.

You obviously don't own an internet-enabled handset or a laptop.

In addition, FO is far more invasive than WiFi.
