I picked up a mk4 Jetta with 146k, its now at 167k. I drive that car for all its worth around the hills here, and have only put oil and pads on it. That said I have gotten a few CELs with it, one time it was a 30 cent vacuum hose got a hole in it, the last time the scanner said it was a speed sensor. It cleared itself and the peedo worked fine at the time and has since.

yeah but the fact that it's throwing CELs is making it true to it's name... VW = electrical issues.

If she wants a turbo bug, let her.....but make her pay for maintenance. Corolla/Scoob/Honda are winners for low cost reliable transportation, except subarus would be fun for when you'd drive it. Food for thought.

Sounds like she really wants a VW... which are great for girls. BUT, they just don't have the reliability factor...
