In Torino Germany got more medals. But they have a smaller population then usa.

In Salt lake Germany won with more medals.

In nagano Germany won with more medals.

Lillehammer 1994 olympics saw Norway leading.

This is the first Olympics ever I think(without looking back) we have lead in medal count. So your example of us having more medals for a higher population makes no sense. The reason we are excelling this year is we have a phenominal ski team along with speed skating and snowboarding. The reason Germany is doing well is they dominate in sliding sports (luge. bobsleigh. etc)

lol roasted. As for the argument of we have more people, how many of us do you think play hockey? It's just like soccer. We do not have the atmosphere that other countries have. Thats why we lose to European countries in soccer. Canada has a similar culture but for hockey. so for us to beat canada, its an accomplishment.
