I think it has a cool factor in that it's a small, accessible, rear wheel drive vehicle that is fun and can make great project. It's also getting older and therefore can bring some respect from anyone who knows about cars because it's not particularly easy keeping an older car on the road.

I don't believe that they are prestigious because prestige is exclusive and expensive. E30's are neither. A new 7 series is prestigious. E30's are just plain cool.

I think the question should have been more specific because in that form its too hard to answer.

The question varies depending on who you are asking. To most of the people on this board I think they could qualify the M3 as prestigious, or any other well done, and taken care of E30.

If you ask another car enthusiast, possibly depending on their knowledge, and appreciation for other makes, they would say most likely say yes.

If you ask a 12 year old kid possibly not, most e90 drivers no, general public no.

Just like if a girl has a some expensive purse that she got at the thrift store, It doesn't impress me and cause me to admire her.

    TL: DR

Prestige is truly in the eye of the tiger ? And our car is an expensive old purse to the general public.

Prestige in one mans eyes can vastly differ in another mans eyes, beat up rust bucket is not prestigious, a E30 restored to original state as it left the show room floor, having tasteful mods if any (subtle lowering, mtech kit, 15"/16" oem style wheels, immaculate interior etc) now that's a prestigious car. In my eyes ofcourse.

In my eyes, fuck yes it is! Don't care what anybody says. A dude who just bought a brand new BMW M3 could come over and make fun of my car, I would just smile and walk off knowing I legitimately love my car more than he does his.

At the end of the day, I LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF MY E30

Hell no...but prestige has no bearing on being a bad ass little car.

This is just one data point, but my daughter's mentally, emotionally, developmentally, hormonally, and chromosomally challenged Jehovah's Witness friend thinks my box-stock 325i sedan is God's own chariot. No-one else likes it, including my wife. I always take it on dates, to test her loyalty (dates with my wife I mean, not my daughter's aforementioned friend).

It's still the most successful touring car of its time isn't it? That counts for something.

Don't be stupid. There are plenty of awesome people out there who have no clue what an E30 is.

The e30's got personality. I wouldn't say prestige. I know I miss both of mine. Like an ugly dog. I wouldn't say it ever contributed greatly to me getting laid.

I'm not new to the board(lurking since 05) or e30s. Been owning them and other BMW models since I was 16. I just love how well they are made and I love the look. To me they are not flashy or something to boast about. To me it is a day alone on a twisty back road in the early fall that makes me fall in love over and over again.

When people ask what I drive I say "an old BMW". They never bring it up again and my joy shall be horded =) Don't need any other people out there learning the reason for the love behind them!

Even with the new one I am building and how much money and cool shit I have sunk into it I still say an old BMW. Fact is the only thing old on it is the shell and wiring xD

I saw this come up in new posts, and I was about to post, but everything I wanted to say now I already said.
