See a cop and don't move over one lane and you'll

    Get fined $100 to $500!

    Have you guys seen this?

If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road with their lights flashing, you have to move to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph.......Every state except NY, Hawaii and Maryland and the D.C. has this law. *In California , the "Move-over" law become operative on January 1, 2010.

    Good. Common courtesy.

However, sometimes you just can't move over... better slow down!

I thought this was a given (common sense)? I wasn't aware of the fine amounts. I'm not sure how often tickets are issued, but seems like it gives the officers more of a known right to do so now.

They've had that law in effect here for a few years now, but I always did it, anyway. I've been pulled over on the side of the road before (out of gas, engine troubles), and it's scary as SHIT when cars go whizzing past 3 feet from your ass.

This is another law put in place because .....

          A. Cops hog the road when they pull people over.

          B. People that pull over are retards and don't give the cop space to park further out from them.

          C. People in America think driving is a right and not a privilege.

          D. Law makers think that making laws covers for a badly run licensing program.

            A. only happens because of B. If I get pulled over, I always try to go into the nearest parking lot or open space, or get as far as possible over to the side.

              Bingo.
Giving a wide berth to someone in the shoulder should be common sense, unfortunatley the average American driver doesn't seem to embrace any sort of sense anyway. This is right up there with idiots passing on the right and people not yielding the the passing lane to overtaking traffic...

I was surprised moving from CA to ID and learning of this law.

I really don't see it possible in many areas in SoCal due to the amount of cars moving on the highway.

                  That's not true at all.
I've seen cops out in the road so you have to drive around them when there's room for them to be completely off the road. In fact it happens so much here I've been wanting to keep a video camera in my car so when it happens I can send it into the Police station and criticize the retards for WTF they think they are doing.
Then they cry someone killed a cop because the cops car was half way in the fucking road.
                  It goes both ways.

I usually did it out of saftey and I didnt realize it was the law until...

A 17yr old kid was test driving my e46 I was selling (his mom in passenger seat). We just did a loop from one exit to another exit on the interstate. While cruzin, we noticed that 2 cops pulled a car over on the otherside of the interstate. No biggie. We make a u-turn and passed the 2 cop cars that pulled that car over. We were kinda boxed in on the right lane but slowed down a bit. As soon as we passed them, the cop car in back, pulled out and pulls us over for the same reason as mentioned by the OP. While waiting for the picket to be printed, I noticed that the other cop car that we passed pull behind the cop that pulled us. Odd.

Then, all of a sudden the cop behind the cop takes off and pull some other car over! I see what they what they are doing! They keep doing this all up the highway! Frickin leapfrog ticketing! SCAM!!!

Needles to say, I didnt sell the car to them. Mom sure was pissed now. Im sure he wound up with a camry. :)

In Kansas it wasnt a set in stone law but there were signs saying move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles. I assumed they meant move over if you could and if you cant dont go by at 90mph.

I couldnt agree with you more. Unfortunatley, re-vamping the licensing program costs them money, while creating new laws generates it. Its really sad. You guys have to witness how bad the roadways are here, somedays I take backroads just to stay off the freeway-its just terrible.

PS. Talking on the cellphone is still legal too, so imagine 30 million assholes on their phones swerving in&out of 5 lanes at once, except the people in the passing lane who stay steady at 50mph and refuse to move over.

I was assraped by the State of VA for this back in May. I failed to move over because of traffic, yet slowed down to 50mph. Misdemeanor with a $312 fine. Talk about a load of bullshit. Virginia can suck my balls.

                            /rant off.

However, I do think its a good law and should be common courtesy, but sometimes it is difficult to do because of traffic. That and fines <$100 are bullshit.
