If you're over 6' tall, a siting in a PT cruiser is like driving around in your own Guantanamo bay.
I didn't have any trouble last time I drove one in the snow.
Good point. e30 HVAC win.
I don't think you could've been any more right. Was it wrong of me to light up the tires on my Passat TDI next to a GreenPeace rally held on the city square? I felt a little guilty leaving them with nothing to breathe but soot. (with chip & injectors I could PAINT black stripes on the road with my exhaust )Leave a comment:

He was making the point that driving old cars is better for the environment than buying new cars. There are plenty of old cars that get great gas mileage and emissions, and they are already built. It fits in with the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle perfectly. Consumption of cars in general is bad for the environment, so we should all drive our cars for as long as possible was one point i think he was trying to make. Sure we can recyle old cars, but there's a reason reduce and reuse are before recycle (theyre in that order for a reason).Leave a comment:

Too true
Too truerDiesel FTW :hitler:
Based on styling? Perhaps. I haven't driven a PT, so I can't comment on dynamics. So do most American vehicles. I'd rather drive a prius than a pt cruiser.
Proof. Not practical, but proof http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKTOyiKLARk*facepalm*
Two miles? I can accept this argument. 20? Not a chance.Emmissions need to look good, so they run the engine to heat up the cat.
I can usually adapt to most controls within 5 miles of driving. This one eluded me. (my Rabbit has a wicked 'throttle' tip-in, too. IP is juiced too much, but I love the boost)You're supposed to adapt to the car. Apparently you need to go watch more green brainwashing videos.
No, it is that bad. They are helpless in the snow. The Civic Hybrid suffers from the same issue. Release brake, get nothing. Apply accelerator & it is like a light switch. Oh wait....it is one.it's not that bad, so long as your tires don't suck.
And if I want to send it to the floor vs. vents? Defrost? Manually change the radio station? I hate iDrive for the same reason. The controls are on the steering wheel...

Reduce Reuse, Recycle is a terrible marketing campaign?"It takes 113,000,000 BTUs of energy to build one of those futuristic waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles-mobiles called a Toyota Prius; which is not only a loss of Man Points to own and drive, but also a loss of Man Points to rent, ride in, fuck in, or even see rolling down the street. 113,000,000 BTU’s equals 1,000 gallons of gasoline. You could drive a 98 Toyota Tercel on that amount of gasoline for like 7 years. That means by purchasing an “eco-friendly” car, you are pissing away 7 years of driving in one fucking purchase. If you don’t get 7 years of driving out of that hybrid piece of shit (which the warantee guarantees you won’t) you just fucked Mother Earth.
Buying a hybrid is like walking into Cesar’s Palace and tipping the valet ten grand instead of dropping it on a roulette wheel. You can uncross your fingers, fucko. Vegas doesn’t give comps for burning cash.
Old cars are better for the environment than new hybrid cars. So why don’t we promote old cars as the “eco-friendly” alternative to hybrids?" -Dick Masterson
And how many BTU's are put into building a Tercel? That's another waste of energy shaped like a car. Besides, even mother earth needs some action sometimes.
That said, If I could go the rest of my life without seeing a schoolbus or a fugly prius (the new ones are almost tolerable)/insight, I'd be a happier man. Heck, give me one month a year sans schoolbuses, and I'll be happier.
Diesel FTW :hitler:I've driven a Prius (2nd gen) for a couple of days. A friend needed to haul some heavy things, so he borrowed my DD ('81 Rabbit Diesel). Ironic, isn't it?
My thoughts:
-Appliance
-A Golf TDI is built much better
-A Golf TDI would get much better mileage on the commute
So do most American vehicles. I'd rather drive a prius than a pt cruiser.
*facepalm*

Three words for you: blow up doll.
I take perverse pleasure in smiling at prius drivers while I pass them on two lane roads. It's often a highlight of my summer evenings.
You missed the whole point of an e30. You can SHOW them how much fun it is to cancel out the greenness. Especially when they're driving 5 under on a twisty two lane road.
2kWh per day is $0.20 / day, or $1 per 5 day work week. I'm not impressed. The plant uses energy-saving lights, and daylight through skylights is channelled to provide more lighting, reducing electricity consumption by 2kWh per day and cuts CO2 by 220kg or 110,000 litres a year.Leave a comment:

I used to work for Toyota and had access to some fairly high-level documents detailing exactly what the Tsutsumi plant outputs and some of the fairly radical technologies being used to combat and offset emissions there.
I agree the Prius DEFINITELY DID hurt the environment more years ago, but as of the third-gen model, it isn't the same story. And that takes a bit for me to type, as an avowed petrol-electric hybrid cynic.
Some of the info (ripped from Toyota Aus):
Since 1990 the annual emissions have been reduced by more than 150,000 tonnes - roughly equivalent to the volume of CO2 absorbed each year by a 5,040-hectare tropical rainforest.
The plant's carbon dioxide emissions have been cut by over 700 tonnes per year.
In 2008, Toyota installed 50,000 square metres of photovoltaic solar panels with a total output of 2000kW - the average consumption of 500 households.
Half of the electricity from the plant comes from the solar panels on the roof, while rest is produced by gas co-generation.
The 22,000 square metres plant exterior is covered in photo-catalytic paint, which breaks down airborne nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx), givingthe same effect as planting 2000 trees (cleaning the air by producing oxygen in sunlight).
As part of the plan to offset CO2 emissions, 50,000 trees were planted at and around the factory in 2008.
TMC have also covered the Tsutsumi plant's rooftops with NOx-absorbing vegetation.
Since Prius production began in 1997, the plant has reduced the amount of waste going to landfill by 82 per cent and has instituted plans to achieve complete elimination of incinerated waste. Comprehensive water recycling programs have led to a 50 per cent reduction in water discharge to the local river system. The discharged water is five times cleaner than the river itself.
The plant uses energy-saving lights, and daylight through skylights is channelled to provide more lighting, reducing electricity consumption by 2kWh per day and cuts CO2 by 220kg or 110,000 litres a year.Leave a comment:

Iain, you have been suckered.Dick Masterton needs to update his stats. The plant where the Prius is built is - and has been for some years - carbon neutral. It actually offsets the emissions of each Prius built.
I hate Priuses, but that old cherry about their production being hugely bad for the environment is around 10 years too old.

Source for the data that you're citing in this shitty rant clearly stolen from another website?"It takes 113,000,000 BTUs of energy to build one of those futuristic waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles-mobiles called a Toyota Prius; which is not only a loss of Man Points to own and drive, but also a loss of Man Points to rent, ride in, fuck in, or even see rolling down the street. 113,000,000 BTU’s equals 1,000 gallons of gasoline.
