Christopher's father was 10 feet behind him and reaching for his camera when his child fired. The boy was briefly conscious but died at a hospital still wearing the outfit he chose for the event, which he had anticipated for months.
Christopher lost control of the 9mm micro submachine gun as it recoiled while he fired at a pumpkin at the Oct. 26, 2008, event.
Still pending is a $4 million federal lawsuit the boy's family has filed against the club, the event's promoters and those who supplied the weapon and ammunition.
Only in America would someone try to sue the club after their child shoots himself while under the supervision of his own father.

This is why we can't have nice things.

        yea, this is old news.
he should not have been shooting the uzi in the first place. uzi's have a high rate of climb and there is no way a child could have controled it properly......but it was under his father's supervision and the father should have either been helping him control it or just told him no.

way to pass the buck! tragic yes, the club's at fault, no way.

If the club is organizing the event, then legally they are responsible for anything happening during the event. Which is why organizers have liability insurance, and why the event itself is insured too. But what I don't understand is the father who allows his 8 year old kid to trigger a machinegun known to be very jumpy... He is as responsible as anyone and deserves to loose child custody.

I wonder how the NRA is going to argument now...

Holy fucking shit I am so goddamn tired of Americans not being grown up enough to take the goddamn blame themselves. It's like we've learned over the last generation or so that when something really bad happens, the reaction is to sue someone. THaT is NOt how it FuCKInG WoRKS you DICKhOLES!!!

Edit: Sigh... ^this^ is what happens when you rant before you read. From the article, it seems one or two people gave him misinformation about the safety of the gun. So he was probably a gun n00b? But then again, how many gun n00bs are going to gun fairs with their third graders? I don't get it...

However, I do not retract my statement that this man is a complete idiot for ever considering giving a 3rd grader a machine gun. Therefore his lawsuit still falls under the category of "Give me money because I'm a fucking moron."

The gun is clearly at fault here. It was way to powerful and should have adjusted for the kid's hands.

Sad news but some people are just too fucking stupid to put two and two together sometimes.

An inanimate object cannot make good or bad decisions. The father probably shouldn't have let his 8 year old child who lacks the strength or responsibility, wield an automatic SMG.

i do agree that the father is as much at fault, but that is it.
gun safety ultimately boils down to the individual, the MINOR CHILD is unable to take legal responsability, therefor the responsability falls to the legal guardian or parent. the dumb assed father who handed his small child the SMG.so the father should be sueing becuase he made a poor parenting choice and should have not been allowed to breed in the first place.
