I love vinyl records for their superior audio qualities, but unless you never play them, they do not last longer than CD's.

If you think Technics 'tables sound good, then you have no idea what you're missing! The big advantage of Technics direct-drive 'tables is that they spin up quickly and are resistant to skipping. That makes them great for DJs, but the sound quality is pretty poor.

Listen to even a basic belt-driven Rega, Pro-Ject, or Thorens connected to a decent audio system and you'll be blown away.

Every damn album in there is excellent!

If you wanna sell them, figure a price, box them up, measure it and weigh them. I will send you a shipping label and you drag it down to Kinkos/Fedex and hand it to them.

Absolutely. I spin on Technics, but listen when I'm at home on a Thorens.

i had around 100 old punk rock albums that i gave/sold to a friend who collects vinyl. all were orginal pressings that i bought new when they came out most were pretty rare when i passed them on. i knew what they were worth (roughly) but they were just just collecting dust and waiting to get messed up/broken.
told him he could never sell them (which he wont) but i wanted them to go to someone who would appriciate them.

i have never seen someone SOOO happy and excited as when i brought them into the bar (he worked at another bar) .
i have never paid for any drinks when i stop by and see him and he says i never will.

nice to know that they are going to someone who will take care of them.

KNOW YOUR MUSIC (when the drops are, precicsely when the music starts and stops, highs, lows etc)

                      Structure your set.

play to the crowd but don't pander.

Be dynamic and versatile - double drops, rolling a break beat, counter grooves to keep the dance floor interested and moving.

                      Don't indulge yourself too much.

                      Maintain your musical credibility.

Know how to use your gear effectively.

I like this thread. I think I'll subscribe to it...

As part of my life changing experience with buying a home, I've decided to not socialize with the TV anymore. I'm going to exclusively play vinyl records to entertain. I live right behind one of my cities best vinyl record shops now. Let the collecting begin!!

I DJ'ed last night in a vinyl shop and the crowd was mostly of younger people. Which tells me that some people are starting to get the futlity of MP3s. Which is the worst standard ever. First time of history that music got into devolution. Worst than previous generation. A compressed sound that cuts off low and high frequencies to sound louder.

I just got a NuMark TT-100 and it doesn't have a needle, cartridge, or headshell. Any suggestions on what to get? I would be scratching, just listening. I would also like to spend around $80 or so.

BTW, I got the turntable for free and it came with a badass case.
