Think this will hurt the manufacturing industry?

"Caterpillar Inc. said the health-care overhaul legislation being considered by the U.S. House would increase the company's health-care costs by more than $100 million in the first year alone."

To handle the increase in IRS influence, they will hire 17,000 new employees over the next 10 years.

Yay for growing gov't even more!

Don't worry, they will just consider it part of the compensation packages and the unions will get what they deserve, lower wages. If the unions buck they will just move production to Mexico.

It's pretty obvious to me the CBO has no fucking clue what they are talking about.

Anyone who thinks this bill is deficit neutral is out of their Fing minds.

If the employer can't afford the insurance and the employee can't afford it, then what?? A fucking fine is issued....BWHAHAHAHAHAHA.

we have lost much of CAT in the last few years they exported tons of jobs. Just a week or so ago they announced that arrangement was not working out as well as planed (many corp's are figuring this out) and were going to "On-shore" many of those jobs back here to the states.

Wonder if this new HC debockel will change their minds, and just shut the doors or move the whole thing over seas.

you start doing this to companies, we will see lots of prices go up, and with just CAT they will have to add those costs into the price of already VERY expensive equipment, which contractors buying it will have to raise their bid prices across the board to afford the equipment. Who pays for much of those bids Yup you guessed it the tax payers on all those Stimulus Projects, not to mention all the normal municipalities that have infrstructure projects going on. this amounts to robbing peter 4 or 5 times to pay Paul

                      Its going to kill US

There's not much explination about WHY it will cost them more. Is it because suddenly the insurance company will use it as an excuse to jack the rates, or because half the employess aren't currently on a plan? Just based on tax alone? Based on dumping everyone's plan and paying the fee?

Is our country completely falling apart?

After Bush's term, I honestly had hope that this Obama fellow was going to at least restore some confidence in the government. But now it's frustrating to see how he is beginning to fail at this.

However, I'm all for finding a way to get everybody the health care that they need. My dad is a self-employed contractor so he had to buy his insurance, which was very expensive because he was a type 1 diabetic. In fact, many insurance agencies would not even cover him. When times were profitable, it wasn't such an issue, but when the economy started to slump it hit my dad hard. Fortunately my mom got a nursing job just when things were getting bad.

For being a type 1 diabetic, my dad is very healthy and active, so it is crazy that finding insurance has become near impossible. So, I think it's really obtuse when people say that the current health insurance system is fine. It's not. It's crazy expensive and it's not fair to people who can't afford it. There are people out there working their asses off to feed their families who can't get health insurance because their employers can get away with it. So, what happens when one of their kids breaks their arm? They get a massive bill that puts them in dept. I've been in this situation.

It's retarded that our country likes to fuck itself over. The thing i'm most angry about? Major manufactures shipping jobs over to china and south to mexico. That started this whole mess.

Oh, and the greedy unions demanding $40/hour to sort lug nuts.

Beginning to fail? He failed before he started because he is a career politician with roots in the propagandist "community organizing" crap. His career is built on graft. He failed at this long ago. But, that's just my opinion. I understand hoping for better.

The insurance thing is a problem. But again, you're looking at it sideways. The reason insurance is expensive is because health care is expensive AND because our government forces private insurance companies to cover things that shouldn't be covered. If they didn't have to cover, by law, ridiculous things like sex change operations, then do you think it would be easier for your dad to find reasonably priced insurance? I think so.

The current bill is not the answer. It does not solve any problems and create many more problems. That's what Cat is complaining about. They probably went out and got quotes from their insurance provider and their competitors to see where they would be at if this bill passes. The answers weren't good. The insurance companies will have to cover more stuff than ever before. That simply means the price must go up.

To question what this will do to overall employment in the US and the affects on prices for everything is good. That's the kind of hard question that congress and the President should be asking. Yet, that is a subject that they want nothing to do with. They figure those rich corporations will just have to give up some of their profits to cover it. That just shows their complete misunderstanding of business.

The CBO only computes costs based on what congress tells them the results will be. If congress tells them that this new tax will bring in X dollars, that is the number the CBO uses, no questions asked. So, basically, the CBO numbers should only be believed if they say something bad about a bill after the party pushing the bill asks for the review.
