If you look at government programs in business terms they are complete failures. But the government shouldn't be seen as a business or at least a purely profit based business. The government often takes other things into account, and can sacrifice profit for things such as jobs, health, environmental protection, etc. just like what they did when they took over GM. In that case, the profit motive was turned down and hundreds of thousands of people got to keep their jobs. That is a good trade off if you ask me.

I think I have asked you this before but did you eat paint chips as a kid for entire meals???
The point is where dose the GOVT get its money from????? Yup, its our money that we work hard to earn, and would like to have as much of the fruits of our labor, to provide a good life for our families, and have a little fun along the way. Not provide a free ride for every one else that refuses to take care of them selves, or just keep giving it away to be wasted.
Here let me put this into terms you can understand. Lets say you are taking a really hard class that not many people do well in. You work you ass off and make a 98% over all for the class.
The class average is 70% and more than 1/2 the class failed. Would you be willing to take the loss of your high A (that looks good on your GPA) and give 28% points to others that didnt work as hard and no pass or do as well. And take the low C 70% that is the class average so every one passes and is all equal, even though you did better and worked harder to get that better grade. IS that a Fair trade off??????????????

How many of you use public roads? Who pays for them? Everyone does. Rich and poor people. Brand new cars and clunkers. Do you drive on them at a a similar rate as you pay taxes? While people with cars, and those with no car pay for the roads, should the people without cars ask for a refund of their taxes?
I suggest a pay toll at every single mile, on every single road. The more you drive. The more you pay. Is that the type of society you want?
Or one highway lane in superb slick condition for rich people "who work hard for their money" and think that others shouldn't beneficiate from their sweat, and one bumpy lane for poor peoples. Let's start segregation all over again.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

You in Eskimo land pay even more in fuel taxes than we do here in the states to both pay for your roads and your fucked Heath care system. Thats why your refined fuel prices are higher there than in the states, and you guys make a huge % of what we import

Government CAN NOT make a profit because they can't make any money, well, they can print it, but they can't earn it. They can only take it. From us, those of us who ARE the economy. Those of us who do make money because we provide something of VALUE to others. Government can only take from one group and give to another. That's neither productive nor fair. Government might have the best of intentions, but it cannot take the place of the economy. It does not work as history proves.
The things government "takes into account" is what it perceives to be right even when it is completely wrong. If a business did that, they wouldn't be in business for very long. Government can make every single mistake in the universe and still be there. There is no punishment for failure. It just keep getting bigger and bigger. That's the problem.
I don't look at government as a business, but I do look at return for my tax dollar. And no, I don't mean economic return. I look at society, is it safe? Are criminals being apprehended and put away? Is my country safe from attack from others? Am I reasonably assured that if I steal something from my neighbor that I'll get caught and punished?
In other words, are my property rights protected? That's the one true measure of a good government. Right now, I would say no, not as well as they should be because the people responsible for insuring that my property rights are being protected are the very same people taking my property from me to give to others.
That's why government is bad and that's why people like me will always challenge what government is doing no matter who is in office. Complacency is unacceptable. Apparently, you trust your government to do what is right for you. That's a very fatal attitude to have. Just check history for your answers.1987 E30 325is
