Study hard and remember even after you pass your test, there is more to learn than you ever thought. EMT-B is fairly simple in it's treatments but more importantly you are to observe and report your findings about the Pt. to ALS. Don't forget we may also administer Epinephrine via Auto-injector and in many states Albuterol aswell as assist with Nitro given no contraindications are present. Anyway good luck it can be a very rewarding career.

I know about the "helping" with nitro etc. I didnt put it as something we can administer because we cant. We can only help them out. But I know once I start doing this for real that Ill learn a lot more and pick things up. Im a quick learner if Im getting my hands on and doing it. But also, here in SLO, every unit is ALS. There is always a medic on board.

If competition for jobs is tough you should consider taking some courses to bolster yourself. Take an urban search and rescue course, or a wilderness first aid course. Anything you can do that makes you more than just a basic will help you out.

Look up EPPC Inc. They run a lot of courses out of CA. I took my SAR flight ops course with them, which gave me a FEMA certification. Fire department's love that kind of stuff.
