You can buy individual components for desktops from newegg that are a good year or two ahead of what's in laptops in terms of processing and graphics. If you're a PC gamer, a well built desktop > consoles, granted there aren't as many games.

Mine's far from well built. 650w power supply, 2gig of ram, and an invidia 9800 gt and I can do most things fine on my desktop.1985 M10b18. 70maybewhpoffury. Over engineered S50b30 murica BBQ swap in progress.
