    New project idea

I will be done with my m50 swap soon and I have mainly all the stuff to get her how I want. I now need rims and a few things engine upgrade wise.

Anyways I go nuts without a build or project. I am in love with old VWs and I wanted to know what you guys thought of the VW squareback.

I am thinking a 67, 68 slammed rat rod look all euro and a roof rack with deep dish rims. I am not looking to make any engine mods just a slow and LOW cruser. Also if anyone knows about suspension setups for them PM me.

Tell me what you think, flame away

        That's a notchback, not a fast.

Yep, like everyone else. Good plan.

I would take a notch, square or fast over a Bug any day.

How 'bout a Ghia coupe/vert? Not nearly as utilitarian as a squareback, but definately just as unique.

this cracks me up, or pisses me off, i dunno which one more so. here we are in a forum where people get their panties all in a bunch when someone puts a rusty hood, crap paint job, & roof rack on their e30. a readily available car with a huge aftermarket and tons of new AND used parts available; there are untold thousands of e30's on the road today driven by people who could fucking care less about them, and more in junkyards everywhere.

however, if someone wants to rat rod one of the rarer air-cooled dubs sold in the US, that is actually hard to find, find replacement parts for, and has some collector value right now, everyone is ok with it. wtf, r3v. and yes i posted a pick of a 'notch & suggested a fastback, but neither, or the square back for that matter is a good rat-rod candidate. these are cars that are actually worth restoring and taking care of. imho.

why is it that people here try to squelch anyone with a hint of "individuality" in this particular marquis & chassis, but encourage it in another marquis, on a rarer car?

It is settled, I have seen 4 in two days and I am falling more in love every moment. I am buying one once my E30/m50 is done.

This was my first plan but there is too many around and I fell in love with the Squareback.

Too much curve, I do like it but not my style.

Are you ok? it is not like you are funding it...and I did my research. They can be had from 450-2k(running no rust) and there it SO many.

I am not going to rust it, I just want it rough and have the factory paint left alone no matter what. I will not let ANY rust ruin it. Weld in new panels and paint some flat on it.

So you can take your endangered badge somewhere else son.

P.S. Squarebacks are the shit, why would I settle for a notch or fast?

Some inspiration if you go the Ghia route http://www.bader-racing.de/en/home/home_news.htm
Currently helping a friend with his Ghia coupe project. It is super easy to work on, but there is a good amount of rust.
