There is no way that Lance has done any kind of doping. First of all it would ruin his entire life, all this campaigning for livestrong, and all of his tour wins. He really has no reason to dope. The allegations made against him by Floyd Landis are with out a doubt illegitimate and are just a publicity stunt to take some of the heat off of himself and force it onto Lance. One other reason, if Lance was doping he probably would have won the last Tour de France after coming out of retirement, the fact that he didn't suggests the obvious, he does not dope.

I am a biker myself, and I absolutely hate it when bikers have no regard for the traffic or traffic laws around them. It scares the crap out of me every time i have to go all the way into oncoming traffic just to get around three bikers that won't ride single file.
I know at least in cali that the law is that you have to ride single file unless you can maintain the posted speed limit then you can ride however many abreast that you want.

Agreed. However, I find it infuriating when I ride close to the shoulder, oftentimes not even on the same road, and yet people do not have the decency to give me room when they pass. And I am 100% with you on the Landis issue.

Hate to bump a 2.5 year-old thread, but obviously the topic is very much in the news. Here's an article I read today by Mark Webber (of Red Bull Racing/Formula 1 fame, for those who don't follow it.) Insightful and unsolicited.

The F1 driver talks about how he got to know Lance Armstrong before their relationship turned sour

Even back in '10 when this thread came around, you'd have to have been delusional if you thought he was innocent. Sure, there wasn't ever concrete evidence, but the circumstantial evidence was so incredibly overwhelming. Same thing happened with Barry Bonds... he never had a positive test all along, but testimony from so many people, plus the observable physical feats makes it extremely unlikely that he was telling the truth.

Lance was a cheater and a liar, plain and simple. Does it mean much of anything? No, because nearly everyone he was competing against did the same damn thing. The things he accomplished were incredible.

Basically he said "Yeah, I cheated, but so did everyone. I was just much better at cheating."

Sad day for cycling. Really had higher hopes that maybe he had been telling the truth all these years only to hear the plain truth.

What I'm most worried about now is that this horrible truth is going to tarnish all of the positive, non-cycling things he's done like the Livestrong foundation. Granted, it's all sort-of built upon the cheating but I think it would be a shame for those efforts to be for naught as a result.

Yes, I agree with that although it does not make it right.
I think everybody's issue with Lance is that he made his name on the fact he said he wasn't juicing.

The BIGGEST thing with me is that he steamrolled anybody that hinted that he DID juice. He wrecked the careers of many and caused a lot of hurt to keep his story going.

And he doesn't know everybody was cheating. There must have been a few honest guys in the sport, and he took away their potential careers.

I really can't believe how big his lie was, how he actively fought people who tried to uncover his BS. He wrote 2 fucking books, full of fabricated motivational drivel.

What were all those things again? He took his fame & popularity to create a huge money-making foundation that "unites, inspires and empowers people affected by cancer." It does not support cancer research as it's primary goal. Many, many people assume it does when they write the check. By mutual association, both Lance & Livestrong profited mightily from his doping, through appearances, speaking engagements, and fundraisers.

I DO think that Livestrong.org (NOT livestrong.com) has helped many people with cancer. But the why is what troubles me. How many people do you know that wore a yellow LIVESTRONG wristband? I appreciate their commitment to get fit in order to beat cancer. I marvel at the inner strength they tap into that wasn't known to exist before. The general feeling is "Look at Lance--he not only beat cancer, but went on to win the Tour numerous times. If he can do that, surely I can get my life back."

And that is where this whole thing falls apart. Without doping, Lance would never have won the Tour. Without the Tour wins, Lance is just another cancer survivor. Commendable, certainly. Just not that remarkable.
