Building a retro system for my mancave....(influence welcome)

I spied with m little eye this decent piece on craigs. I haven't decided on speakers as of yet, so any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

I also need a little help find a nice vinyl rotation device. I may just go new school on that.

Please help! Audiophile newbie in the makes. Even pointing me in the right direction of a good audiophile site would be great.

    Cheers,

    AJ

P.S. These speakers may be in the mix... http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/1755464809.html

I still get newsletters from hometheaterforum, might want to check them out.

I've still got some bitchin' JBLs for the living room out here, but my receiver took a dump awhile ago. I've got to see if I can CL something up.

Ooh today I found a kickass Harman Kardon 330C amplifier on CL. For $100! It is awesome, and I will have it in about 2 weeks.

        That is some "loud" marble.

Yeah actually better yet, I found a bunch of cheaper ones on eBay. I will be buying the earlier generation one for $60 with shipping. They are a beauty, and supposedly sound as close to a tube as you can get with a SS.

            330b is a tad different - http://vintageelectronics.betamaxcol...model330b.html

You can't beat a home made tube amp for the true retro feel and true audiophile sound. Once you get into that then you might consider making your own speakers too. I guess it is a bit like building a megasquirt, you still have to learn a lot of tuning theory to pull it off.

As far as a turntable, a solid reliable technics direct drive is the way to go. There are some pretty good diy audio forums out there.

Glad to see that there are a few other audiophiles around. I just picked up a pair of Klipsch La Scala's to pair with my McIntosh MC-30 amps w/ a nice preamp and a Rega-P1 turntable. The sound quality is AMAZING.
