They have been doing this for a long time. Glad to see the courts have now paved the way for even greater state profits . The potential for abuse is huge! As someone brought up, how can you even defend yourself in court if you are wrongly accused? It is your word against the officers' with no evidence to use as a tie breaker. What are you going to do subpoena the officer's brain?

Nah, I dont believe it is. They are just baiting you.

They pull you over and ask you "do know why I am pulling you over?"

You typically reply "No officer, I do not"

He then usually says something like "Are you aware of how fast you were going?" or just "Do you know how fast you were going?"

Our instinct is to play dumb, so we answer, "I am not quite sure."

BAM ticket. You admitted that you were unaware of your speed so whatever he says goes.

Ive been stopped with this tactic 3 times while going the speed limit and my V1 on. V1 didnt trip, and he never saw it. They asked me why, I told them I didnt know, then they tried to tell me I was speeding, and I abruptly told them there is no way I was going over the speed limit. With my gps and tach both reading the same speed, both arent wrong.

All 3 times they have pulled it, I rolled away ticketless after more or less telling the cop to suck a duck and to stop harassing me because of my car. As soon as the word harassment came out of my mouth, they cut me free.

Yeah, I am a dick, and I respect what officers do. But pulling me over and telling me I was going 75 when I wasnt even going 60?! Sorry, thats harassment and no wool is being pulled over these eyes.

Come to think of it, he was on his way back from California, so it may have been before he crossed the border, I'll have to ask him now I guess. But thats good info to have, I'll keep that in mind.

please explain that. your tach reads your speed? the tachs displays rpms which can change at a given speed point due to tire size and rear diff. either way, the tach cant display the same data as a gps. and i know the speedo in your car didnt display the same speed as the gps unless you've had your speedo calibrated. and recalibrated every so often to deal with tire wear.

only time i've been pulled over for speeding, i was speeding. haha.

            me: good afternoon sir.
po: good afternoon, do you know why i pulled you over?
            me: yep.
po: ok. license and registration please.
*walks away, comes back with ticket.*
            po: since you were polite, i wrote 74 in a 55, instead of 84 in a 55.
            me: thanks.

and the reality of it was doing about 95+ and was continuing to accelerate when i spotted the officer, and he subsequently spotted me full on braking.

i've had a lot of bad interactions with police officers, but luckily speeding hasnt been one.

It was in reference to the vehicle mounted speedometer enclosed and placed next to the revolution counter (tachometer) inside of the cars instrument cluster.

Sorry for not using nomenclature that you understand. Everyone knew what I meant as it was not even a key part of my comment. So go EAD you nancy.

This is pretty easy to do, pick a point close to the middle of the two cars, if one gets there a lot sooner than the other, it's clear that one is going faster than the other.

                  wellthats a load of shit
in nj if you get a ticket it has to say how the officer caught you and if he was trained to use the equipment, and if the radar has been calibrater, if not you can challenge them in court and get the fines and points dropped

im still calling bullshit on his speedo reading the same as a gps.

i've NEVER seen an e30 speedo that wasnt ~5mph off at highway speeds. they come like that form the factory. so unless you recalibrate it, im calling bullshit.

Move to quebec where driving is like the provincial sport. Everyone here is super agressive and traffic rules are more like suggestions. Gray haired ladies will cut you off and get on your ass if you are not doing 140 in the fast lane.

Driving to work really wakes me up in the morning.

I've never really had a problem with cops here most are polite and if you get pulled over you probably deserve it. Not much room on the highways to hide for them, so you get to know where they hide pretty quickly.

If you were a Cop and saw a car passing traffic that was going 100-120 really quickly you would know that they were speeding.

Well, you my friend need to get out more. Mine was dead on up to 85-90 then above 100 it read low by approx 5 mph. So go eat another dick, they seem to be your meat of choice.

I love this typical R3v thread...

                              etc....
                              Anyway...

Ive heard from other Ohioans, that they dont have the general 5-10mph leniency for speeding either like most states.
He told me he was ticketed for 1 mph over in a 55 and argued with the cop that his speedo said 55. He was ticketed and explained his case to the judge and the judge told him "Then from now on you should drive under 55."

Equal rights should be all or nothing, not picked and chosen based on what's convenient for ones personal agenda.
