State needs money, the easier it is to get speeding tickets out and no way to be innocent till proven guilty any longer. This way they get their money no matter what and there is no way to prove you not guilty weather you are or not.

Just a way to make up for budget short falls easier and that and so much for Innocent till proven guilty you are now guilty and have to prove your innocence in the state of OH

Yeah, but that just tells you that one car was traveling faster than the other car, not at what speed the car was moving. The officers could have been going 5 under the limit and I could have been going the limit and your scenario would have been right, doesn't mean I was speeding.

He told me exactly how fast he thought I was going exactly. This was with him traveling in the opposite direction at 11:30pm in a downpour with no one behind me and no one in front of me. There weren't many reference points as I was out in the middle of no where massachusetts on my way home to NJ.

I explained this all to the judge and he even thought it a little curious and dropped the violation down to zero points and a much lesser fine.

i was pulled over once by an officer, and he asked me why i was in such a hurry. since i had the cruise control set at the speed limit, i was more than a little confused by this. (my speedo said 40mph, my gps said 41mph)

i proceded to ask him what he was refferring to, and he said it looked like i was going too fast. when i asked him if he knew exactly how fast i was going, he failed to determine an exact speed (i.e. well, i'm not sure exactly, but.....). i then informed him that i had been going exactly the speed limit for the past 20 miles, and he then decided to give me a "verbal warning". he looked pissed......

Up here in WA we can get ticked for going the speed limit in 'hazardous conditions' such as rain... when it rains 9 months out of the year and at least a couple times a month for the other 3...

On another note I never thought I'd see a bash.org quote on R3vlimited.

That quote is what I think of every time I read a string of bickering such as this.

I'm glad someone else knows about bash.org a fellow internet OG.

but yeah unless you are going ridiculously fast so that the officer can obviously tell you are speeding then this law is bullshit. like if you are going less than 20mph over the limit there is no way they can tell how fast you were going because a majority of drivers on the road drive like that

In Virginia they can give you a ticket if they think you have broken the speed limit in the past or might do it in the future. They don't fuck around here

Huh. I (hypothetically) drive 5 over all the time, even around cops. I usually make a point of passing them at about 1mph faster than they drive - not once has that gotten so much as a glance out of them (I have noticed that they seem very annoyed by everyone suddenly driving slowly when they notice blue plastic in the rear view mirror).

The only time I've ever gotten a speeding ticket, I truly deserved it. That was a long time ago.

Im pretty sure cops have always been able to write tickets off a visual estimation but only if you were without a doubt speeding like 100+ mph. But the fact that they can write any speeding ticket by estimation is complete bullshit and that needs to be fought.

That hasn't been my experience. My rule of thumb is 10 over in a 55 or 65 is usually safe and 5 over max for a 25, 35, or 45. Kind of silly and arbitrary but I have passed police in all of these situations and haven't been ticketed. 87 in a 55 however ... that's a different story, haha.
