Yes I love that Porsche but it is not what I would consider a hot rod. A hot rod is a roadster circa late 1920's to 1940's with exposed wheels that has been built for linear speed.

A hot rod doesn't have to be a roadster.

"an automobile specially built or altered for fast acceleration and increased speed."

so yes the Porsche is a euro hotrod and a nice one at that

Since you are using a dictionary definition as a reference, I will give you the wikipedia definition

                        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_rod

Hot rods are typically American cars with large engines modified for linear speed. The origin of the term "hot rod" is unclear. One explanation is that the term is a contraction of "hot roadster," meaning a roadster that was modified for speed. Another explanation is that the mufflers were exposed and thus there was a "hot rod" or hot muffler neck when the vehicle was running. Open roadsters were the cars of choice to modify because they were light. Hot Rod may also refer to the connecting rods, cam, or pushrods inside the engine or to the exposed frame rails of such an automobile. It has also been noted that burning out the connecting rod bearings was a very common failure mode for souped up four-cylinder Fords, particularly the Model T, and "hot rod" could refer to that phenomenon. It was adopted in the 1930s or 1940s as the name of a car that had been "hopped up" by modifying the engine in various ways to achieve higher performance.

The Porsche speedster or 356 was probably constructed in the 1950s, as the 356 was produced from 1948 to 1965.

it is a hot car, but not what I could consider a typical Hot Rod. That is just my opinion. If i was going by your dictionary definition most any modified car is a hot rod. Meaning my E30 with headers, modified exhaust, cold air intake, modified suspension, would be considered a hot rod, which I would say it most definitely is not.

I can agree, most "Hot Rods" are open wheeled. I don't know about roadsters though... Chop top is where it's at.
