    basic video editing software

    so i have a copy of a highlight video on my computer, of which i only need like 1 or 2 clips from, whats the best free software to cut these clips out and put them into say windows movie maker to make a basic 2 minute video. i checked on google, but seeing what actual people use aside from paid ads.

          Isn't Sony Vegas supposed to be pretty good. I know its on TPB too.

            vegas for ease of use. should be more than enough for what you want to do.

            pc, you can't beat avid.

            mac, you can't beat fcp.

              i thought windows movie maker will cut your movies into clips. thats what it does when i transfer movies from my camcorder. it cuts it on the segments where i pressed pause or stop while recording.

                my vote is for vegas...or even the cheaper vegas movie studio. I teach a HS video class and we use vegas movie studio....works great for what we do.

                  Sorry - I know nothing about the consumer stuff. I use an older version of vegas for some web based stuff cause it's resolution independent - but that's about it. Day to day I use Avid.

                  Premiere and Vegas have a steep learning curve - I don't recommend it cause most people will get frustrated and quit, so the odds of success is low.

                  I think Pinnacle has a good one.
