What a piece of shit but at the same time, this is why you don't tail gate. They could have been slamming their brakes on for legitimate reasons but your outcome would have been the same. If police find em and want to, they could probably stick them for something being that it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident like that.

Whenever somebody follows me too close to my tastes - especially that in an emergency situation, I might have better brakes than the guy behind me ;-) - I trigger the warning lights for a few blinks instead of triggering their anger by smashing the brakes. It works all the time.

If I had been the girfriend in that Corolla, I would have kept driving straight, even risking rear ending the Merc. Much safer than hitting the ditch and rolling. And a sure way to get he Merc's driver's attention...

Seriously, Dumb move swerving. That probably causes more problems than rear ending the person in front of you. If they're slamming on the brakes to avoid a child, or a deer, or whatever, you're more likely to hit it by flying around them.

The last time a nimrod in front of me decided to stop suddenly and make a left turn (sans signals, mind you), I simply laid into the brakes, stopped just fine, then tapped the pedal a few times after stopping. The X5 behind me came within 6" of hitting me, and they tried to swerve around me while braking (dumbest move ever, brakes don't work when the wheels are sideways).

I'm glad I have the habit of tapping the pedal to get some attention, or they might have driven right through me.

The Mercedes had criminal behaviour. Karma will catch the driver. If it is a younger driver, most likely he will tell his side of the story on the net thru a car forum, as a kill. That's how you can find the sucker... Meaning you'll find all your proofs there. Google is your friend.

Also, if the incident happened during week days, it was most likely during the Mercedes-Benz's daily commute. Meaning, every day that car will be there at roughly the same time.
