No, I use a lock screen for that.

Google has built in the APIs for that but right now its only geared towards enterprise users.

Droid 1 and Droid 2 - Mostly use Twitter, Angry Birds, Kindle... But here are some others I like and use sometimes.
Chandroid (paid) , awesome app if you like 4chan
gReader for RSS Google feeds
Pocketcloud - For remote desktoping my computer at work for work reasons (super bad ass)
Ringdroid - For creating custom ringtones
Taskos - Tasking program with a cool 1 touch widget
Wireless Tether - Need root access, but very simple hotspot creator.
Retro Camera - Self explanatory. Has good filters, renders quickly.
Astro File Manager - Everyone should have this
