If it makes you feel better I "have a really good friend" who works for a company that owes him about $8,000.00 after taxes, or the equivalent of about twelve weeks of work. The company is trying to catch up but if they go bankrupt my "friend" and his coworkers stand to loose a lot more than $300.00.

All that being said, I think what happened to you is fucked. Especially since the owner didn't have the courtesy to at least notify you. I say harass the shit out of him.

Heh tell me about it...a friend of mine is owed 7k for sealing a big investment deal. Needless to say, he will not be seeing that money. He has since left the company.
