How about more euro offered cars - Renault makes this:

Dacia Duster. Produced in Romania, price 12000 USD new (for Europe that's dirt cheap for a new car). As much as I hate the looks, from technical point of view it's the same car as Nissan Qashqai (which costs almost twice as much):

Really? Even new built ones? That's.... quite surprising given they are sold all over Europe, where safety regulations are pretty strict...

Rover V8 is actually a really good engine. They do have a craving for gas though. Outdated - yes. Shitty - most definately no.

But hey - rover is no longer making it's own V8's so there is a chance for a more modern engine for those cars.

Well you are in luck the they are now using Jags V8, diesel is still a good option.

    Toyota Sequoia SR5

4.7l V8 found in the lexus gx470 and lx470. Room for 8 passengers, Toyota reliability and it also gets 16mpg(atleast my dad does) Much nicer in my opinion then some american SUV that will fall apart in a few years.

yeah, that family car of a trailblazer is teh sex... gtfo. But you are in Alberta so maybe things are different.

P38's are the e30's of SUV's as far as looks go. But to each their own, opinions.

It has the look of being very utility minded. I like it.

    +1

A BMW X5 is potentially a good choice, but not for someone going into their 20's. Living within your means isn't too easy on something that could potentially break the bank. Look at what you can really afford, plus the upkeep on.

A 98-02 Forester (non turbo) can do what many SUVs can do off road, hold enough, and will last. Plus they are cheap. An 03+ Forester (XT is the turbo version) has a much nicer interior and non-turbo versions are easily found under 14k, hell even 10k. XT's are obviously a little more. 08 XT Sports (like the blue one posted) are going to be a little more still. Of course purpose built trucks will go more places off road but if you're smart off road you'd be surprised at what these "wagons" will do. Obviously I've researched these some, an XT is most likely my next DD. I think they can be sexy, but that's me and I'm looking more into the basic needs and things I don't need from a full size. 09+ look like any other crossover out there, Subaru messed up there adding too much to the utilitarianism of the Forester but I'm sure it still sells reasonably well.
