the thing that makes mac's better than pc's is this...
they're closer to an everyday appliance for the average non-tech user
computers should operate like a tv - turn it on an use it without having to know why it works
and the fact they have integrated the iphone, ipad and mac seamlessly with their software makes it far easier to use as a platform for most people.
i have never had OSX crash/freeze, ever
and we've never had a hardware issue ever, going back to sculley days and the beige
    box
is it all marketing, to some degree
but their stuff works, and its easier to use than any running microdog's hairball OS

for tech heavy/special apps, that is a completely diff ballgame

I just ordered an iphone 4. I don't give two shits re: mac vs. PC any more, they are both great options. Macs do cost more and Mac fanatics can still suck my cock though.

I don't necessarily regret going to Mac, I got my Macbook just so I could work natively with compatibility issues. But I can guarantee that I would get a better pc for the price I paid. No doubt about that. I'm with GG on this, when it comes to high-end software that we use, OS is irrelevant. My pc that I built has 5TB, 12GB Ram and Quad-core AMD overclocked to 3.4Ghz with water cooled. Not to mention my dual GTX 480 cards. All for 1/4th the price of the equivalent Mac Pro!

    HAHAHAHAHA!

You're a lucky one then, Apple is notorious for having some of the worst hardware of any computer company! Only in the last 4 years have they actually gotten somewhat better. iPods, Macbooks, etc. they've got about a 3 year shelf life then 65% turn to bricks. I've got machead friends who have stacks of iPods that are totally useless. Hell I went through 5 iPods in 2 years and I actually take care of my stuff! (2 HDDs died, 1 click wheel fell off and the other 2 had failed software that locked it up)

Until Apple drives to my house/office to fix my broken computer (like HP does with my Elitebook) I don't care.

Because Jolly-Gee I love searching for an apple store in a city I've never been to just to get my damn laptop fixed.

Apple support is what made me run away from Apple

I have a macbook. However, I have about a fifth of its street value when new into it, total, after RAM upgrades, OS upgrades, and everything. That is the only way I can tolerate having such a lackluster laptop.

(protip: buy a used one with a broken screen for a hundred bucks, put a new screen in, profit :D)

    This.

My aunt has an iMac and is now looking into a laptop for work travel needs. She's considering a MacBook of some sort, because "I just like Apple." I've tried to explain to her about the many similarities of productivity software she needs and how a Windows based portable can handle all of her travel computing needs for much, much less. However, that convo was about as effective as talking to a wall. She still wants an Apple laptop. Fine. Its her money....go waste it if you like.

The only thing Apple that I have is an iPhone 3GS. Very nice device - capable of more than I will possibly need. But it hasn't made me a convert. When my contract is up next year I'm going to give a good look at some Droid-based phones.

Let's have a poll. I want every serious musician, and photographer
to speak up, what do you use? Because if your computer is used to wack-off to porn and go on r3v then your opinion is worthless to me.

Maybe thier just buying into the hype that macs are better for editing.

I use Aperture for organizing and most editing and Photoshop CS3 for major editing on my MacBook Pro. I love this computer. Everytime I have had to use a PC since owning this machine it has made my head hurt as to how much they have changed them. :(

^Yep. Plus the mac vs PC debate is SO FUCKING stupid. All the high end software is EXACTLY THE SAME ACROSS PLATFORMS. You'll get no advantage running one OS or the other. IT'S COMMAND FOR COMMAND EXACTLY THE SAME.

I'll take a core i7 running a duel or triple boot any day. I'm planning on building a new video editing rig soon. I just finished a $3k job. Doubt I'll spend more than 2k and it will be all of the best of the best components. i7, 12 gigs of ram, 4 Terabytes, ect... But, I can't do that at the apple store. $2k doesn't even get my foot in the door for what I need. With that said, Macs are sexy....if you're into ass rape.

At the end of the day, no one has ever hired be because I run one OS or the other. They hire me for my work. After the boot up screen, who the fuck cares what you're running? And who's spending all the time in the OS anyways?
