      That's what I use on my laptop (about a 2 year old Inspiron 1721), and it looks great on my 50" DLP, even HD content.

        You can go from DVI to VGA, but you cannot go from VGA to DVI.

        VGA = Analog
        HDMI = Digital (0's, and 1's) + audio
        DVI = Digital without Audio

        DVI to HDMI = OK
        HDMI to DVI = OK
        DVI to VGA = OK in most cases

        I guarantee your laptop doesn't output a digital signal from the VGA port, or they would have just stuck a mini HDMI jack on there to begin with.

        If your TV has VGA in, use that you'll get the best quality that way since you don't have an option for a digital signal.

        You also need to figure out what the native resolution is for your TV. You want to achieve a 1:1 pixel mapping for the best quality possible. If the native resolution for your TV is 1920x1080 (1080p). Then you'd need to set the desktop resolution to that on your computer. My guess is that your wimpy video card on the laptop isnt going to support that.

        The Dell inspiron Mini's come with 2 different video chipsets:

        Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
        Broadcom® Crystal HD media accelerator card

        Which one do you have?
        tasty

          You're probably right but why would they make vga - hdmi cables? They do BTW.
