No. The "cobra manuever" is an airshow crowd pleasing stunt. You might get a lucky shot off (heater or a quick guns snap) after doing it, but then you are stuck at like 10 knots in blower trying to catch up to the other guy who is bugging like he has never bugged out of a fight before. Formidable adversary (about all that can be said on a public forum), but every aircraft has its weakness(es). We train hard to exploit them.

Exactly, the Russians pilots have not been flying with any serious amount of hours for years. Due to no money in their budget I would be not be surprised if they are a wee bit rust when it comes to dog fighting, but he that won't exist these days right.

My little brother was recently flying training missions to teach dogfighting skills to the pilots in UAE. He was very suprised at the skill level of some of the pilots. For some it just comes natural.

Yup, our allies. Pro-western and helping us keep an eye on Iran and friends.
They buy our older model jets and we keep them friendly or cut off tech support and parts. It really is a win win situation. Besides, if they buck we can scare people into war over their weapons.

Not to mention that Iraq taught all the big oil producing nations a big lesson in 1991 about why they may need to have strong defensive military assets.

He went to Bahrain (not an emirate), and some other spots. Qatar maybe?

He flies an f-16 out of Salt Lake. I don't know all of the places, but our Air Force serves to offer tech support teaching in the role of a sparring partner to instill confidence in those spending large chunks of money on American made hardware.

He much prefers that role to flying ground support in Afghanistan. He has some stories from there, but most I have not heard most of them as he tends to be out doing his thing and I am busy doing mine.
